I haven't had time today to read that thread in depth before about an hour ago. I skimmed over it this morning via proxy, but life's busy here.
However, I took my youngest daughter to lunch and to the library in a nearby town this afternoon. While she was looking for books, I used the library computers to read indepth...you know, in a place that isn't part of an entire ISP banned by EI.
It truly does read like the old days of TK.
Blondie explained something I've always felt about the nature of EI. It started as a refugee forum for SSBBSers after Christian pulled the plug on that place. It's never really grown past that.
Note in the ACQ Lil's thread about how newcomers are treated. That's syptomatic of the place: if you weren't one of the original bunch, it's hard to gain any credit there. That's not always true, though...there are newcomers there who do just fine.
However, the SSBBS mentality still lives...they're traumatized by what happened to them at the hands of C&L, and they have no qualms about getting nasty when it comes to protecting their playground. Bear in mind, poster registration has been turned off...what?...a month now? The explanation is because of "upcoming software changes."
To the EIers who, there and here, claim that the trolling sprees of late are "pathetic, lowbrow, fill-in-the-blank" I submit: with no new registrations, with the posters handing the admin carte blanche to permaban, and with the heavier guidelines in place now...top that off with obvious admin and moderator abuse of targeted members there who aren't part of the SS incrowd, exactly who unsuccessful were those trolls?
Edited for grammar.
