Why Spider-Man is ineffective outside large metropolitan cities

Conchaga

Let's fuck some shit up
I was watching the trilogy again and I wondered how fast Spider-Man can be going between the buildings. I did my research and the math and I discovered that he couldn't be going faster than 80mph.

Now, if you take away the tall buildings, how fast can he go? Say, in a suburban setting like, where a huge percentage of people in the US live. The tallest thing he can fall from to reach his speed of 80mph is a three story building... and he cannot reach 80mph from a three story building.

Therefore, he'd have to find another mode of transportation. This would be his feet. I'm assuming he has increased strength and stamina so he should have no problem running at a cross-country runner's pace which is about 15mph. Drastically decreased, yes?

If I wanted to commit a crime and Spider-Man were around, I'd just go rob a bank in Podunksville, USA. I could outrun him and get away from the crime sceen in any average consumer vehicle. Also, barring trees, there's less places for him to set-up a potential ambush.

Why these "super" villians keep fighting Spidey on his own turf, I'll never understand.

As a side note, this deduction leads me to believe that the Avengers double-feature will be set in a city.

I think they actually did a story arc with that flaw in mind, years ago. For whatever reason, Parker had to go to Portland or Sacramento and found while chasing some villain that his web-swinging was good for about 4-5 blocks, no more.

NYC's got all the best freaks :bigass:

It was Portland.

Fabian Niceza (sp?) came out to Portland for a comic signing when that storyline came out.
The story featured Spiderman jumping off the Steel Bridge into the Willamette River.
