Why would there be an Afterlife?

I want to smell dark matter
It doesn't even make sense.
 
It makes perfect sense. In the Afterlife you can relax and enjoy yourself and don't have to worry about parents who want you to work yourself to death, raise a family, and have no more fun.

Because staring into the the abyss is a terrifying thing, and people would rather tell themselves fairytales than contemplate their finality.
 
Yeah that's it.
 
Maybe it's not really an afterlife, but the real real life and this life was only to get us ready for that one, because in the next one we have to fight evil hordes of zombies and mutant chickens.
 
Apparently the pain of being dead makes the dead want to eat live human brains.
