Why...

Starship Coyote

Original Gangster!
...is Rey Mysterio still the Heavyweight champion?

It's ridiculous. The man barely outweighs my wife and she still has an inch of height on him, and yet he's regularly whipping guys way bigger than me (like JBL).

I realize that most of this is based on fan reaction to the wrestler, but it's a really big stretch of reality.

Because he is exciting, talented, full of charisma, works his arse off & is great with fans.

What he is suffering from is awful booking & aimless character direction. They've booked him in a dead end battle with the dead weight that is JBL, they're having him do everything "for Eddie". Now, I really miss Eddie, but just seeing Rey is enough to remind everyone of him - we don't have to have that crammed down our throat. Rey is so bloody quick, if they bring in a meaner streak to him, it will work, despite his size.

I for one am happy he's been given a run, but I can't stand the way they've presented him. It's not entirely down to the wrestler himself, it's mostly down to booking.

But that's exactly it, isn't it? He's riding Eddie's coat tails.

You wanna talk about ability, charisma, and work ethic...Eddie had more than Rey does.

He probably does, but for me, Rey still has it in droves. It is the booking and character that his robbing him from shining. He can produce 5 star matches on a daily basis IF he is booked properly.

Well then, he should go back to the cruiserweight division where he belongs...220 lbs or less (and Eddie barely cleared that).

It's ridiculous to watch this David and Goliath crap over and over again...and let me tell you something else...all the office rumor was that JBL was supposed to pick up the belt but plans got changed at the last minute. You could see the original plan: JBL had Rey pinned but had to wait for another referree to come in. From that point, new material was added that gave Rey the belt.

It was office politics that kept the belt on Rey, not who's the fan favorite or who gets the biggest pop. Truth be known, I'll bet JBL pisses off just as many people as Rey entertains, and it's all the same in the end.

Yes. He should go back to cruiserweight and wrestle your wife, who comes in a few pounds (2 to be exact) under the 220 pound limit.

You'd rather see JBL as champ? For one, he has character, but alas, he's fucking shite in the ring. I'd rather see one who can work his arse off, like Rey with it, than a half-talent like JBL. As I have continually said, it's down to booking.

Rey can fight bigger guys (there are more than a few classic matches with Angle in the past), but if the matches are booked to have him totally jobbed out in the lead up to a PPV, and then smashed to bits and grab a win - that's crappy booking. It doesn't make the champion credible, hence opinions like yours.
