Hey BDM, I'm about halfway through the first book! I like it very much. Do you think whoever thought up Heroes was a Wild Cards fan? Too bad they don't get these guys to write for the show.

Well, Tim Kring claims he wasn't a comic-book fan when he created the show, he was just trying to capitalize on the boom in comic-book movies, and make a show about "regular people who happen to get powers". No costumes, secred identies, etc.

Personally, I think he ripped off Wild Cards and every old cliche from comics in the 1980's. The show has become unwatchable. I mean, even the press releases about the upcoming season don't make sense. They were casting for an acto to play a young Nathan, because apparently Nathan touches someone with powers that makes him experience flashbacks as if they're real.

Ummm....yeah, on problem with that, jefe...NATHAN PETRELLI IS DEAD, SYLAR REPLACED HIM AT THE END OF LAST SEASON. Seriously, can the writers not fucking remember what happened as soon as a season ends? If they make Sylar as Nathan experience Nathan's memories, that will be FUCKING RETARDED.

Anyway, glad you like the book, I think they're great, and they get even better and more sophisticated.

I thought the switch between authors would be jarring, but so far the author I liked the least was Melinda Snodgrass. Her chapter wasn't terrible or anything, but it read more like hysterical romance than science fiction. The other chapters had that 50's comic book lingo down, and hers was more modern sounding (to my mental ears).

She's not a bad author! It's just that her chapter didn't blend as well with the other chapters, you could tell the other authors were comic book nerds FROM BIRTH.

I didn't like her earlier stuff in Wild Cards either. But the 10th book, Double Solitaire is the first of the series that's not a "mosaic" novel, it's basically one storyline by a single author, Snodgrass. It's one of the best of the series, even though it basically deals with Dr. Tachyon and a couple of other characters.

Of course, my favorite characters are Croyd "The Sleeper" Crenson, Daniel "Yeoman" Brennan, and Billy Ray a/k/a "Carnifex".

I know who Croyd is, I don't think the other characters you mentioned are in the first book, or at least not YET! Croyd is super cool, I'm glad he's in the other books.
