WrestleMania 25

CaptainWacky

I want to smell dark matter
They keep calling it the "25th anniversary of WrestleMania" which makes me wonder if they know what "anniversary" means. It's the 25th WM, but not the 25th annivesary. That would be next year. This is 24 years since the first WM. Anyway...

WWE Champion Triple H vs. Randy Orton - Really don't care that much since we've seen this match about 8 times before on ppv. The build-up has improved in recents weeks (certainly better than HHH just destroying Cody Rhodes for ten minutes with a sledgehammer) but I can't get excited about a match where the McMahons will no doubt be heavily involved. HHH will win.

World Heavyweight Champion Edge vs. John Cena vs. Big Show (Triple Threat Match) - This one's had a more comical build, though when you stop to think about it should they really be having a comical build for a WrestleMania main event? I'm sick of Cena being in the title match at WM every year and he'll no doubt be booed out of the building again. Why do they keep giving him the belt back? He'll almost certainly win. Maybe they'll have a shocking Edge victory to drag it out further.

Intercontinental Champion JBL vs. Rey Mysterio - Who cares? This exists only to give JBL a singles match at WM for some reason. We already saw it on RAW last week! My guess, Rey wins (again), JBL announces retirement (again).

Matt Hardy vs. Jeff Hardy (Extreme Rules Match) - I thought they'd start with a regular match then build up to this. BUT WHATEVER. Should be good anyway as they'll no doubt try something crazy as it's WM. Jeff will win.

WWE Tag Team Champions vs. World Tag Team Champions (Unified Tag Team Championship Lumberjack Match) - The build for this was actually about the best booked of any match with the simple story of them wrestling each other a lot and trading victories and one of the Bella twins being good and one being evil...then they went and made it a lumberjack match. Which doesn't fit the story at all. It's just to get everyone on the card. Lame. When has there ever been a good lumberjack match? The Colons will win.

Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker - The main attraction of the night for REAL FANS, obviously. There's no real reason that they're wrestling other than that they're the two longest serving stars in the company and it's WM, but hey, that's fine. I expect Shawn to play heel here. Could be an excellent match. Taker will win.

Money In The Bank Ladder Match (Finlay, MVP, Shelton Benjamin, Kofi Kingstone, Mark Henry, Kane, Christian, CM Punk) - Lazy booking again as they just throw a bunch of random people in the money in the bank match Having both Mark Henry AND Kane in there is pretty dumb (and Finaly and MVP aren't exactly high flyers either). Christian and MVP are the only ones I can see winning.

25-Diva Battle Royal for title of "Miss WrestleMania" - The annual shit Divas match! All the current Divas plus "faces from the past" though they haven't actually announced anyone yet so it could just be Mae Young or something. Santino will likely get involved which should make it entertaining at least. If he's in it he'll win, if Trish is in it she will, if not...Beth Phoenix.

Chris Jericho vs. "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat & Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka - What a pile of crap this turned out to be. An excellent start, but after Rourke decided not to wrestle they obviously had no back-up plan as we're stuck with this. Piper and Snuka sucked 20 years ago and can hardly moved now. Steamboat was a great worker but hasn't wrestled in 15 years due to a horrific back injury. I really don't see how this could be good.

Awful card other than Taker/Michaels, but I'll be watching anyway out of some OCD need.

Not a good card at all. But it's Wrestlemania so I'm watching it.

I'm hoping niether Cena not HH win, but as long as each show has a heavywight belt, I'll be somewhat happy.

It's really lazy and annoying how Cena and HHH have been in the world title matches for the last five or six years now.

CM Punk won MITB again?

I don't really have much of a problem with Trips getting the win seeing as how he's done quite a few jobs at WM in the recent past but I can't fucking stand seeing the start of another reign for Super Cena. He'll probably hold onto the belt until at least Summerslam.

I AM BEAUTIFUL; NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY:

WORDS CAN'T BRING ME DOWN

It pissed me off that they cancelled the tag title match (it took place before the ppv). It was one of the matches with the best and longest build-up. Surely they could have found time?

Money in the Bank was good as always. There's a formula to these matches now and they went through all the usual spots, but there was some new stuff too. Kofi Kingstone was particularly impressie but then he just disappeared halfway through the match. In fact that was a pretty big problem, when Kane appeared at the end he'd literally not been seen for ten minutes. What had he been doing? Mark Henry must have fallen asleep or something too. Shelton gave his annual mix of spectacular and sloppy spots. Punk winning was a surprise since everyone on the internet said MVP or Christian were the only ones with a chance. Maybe they just did it for a surprise.

I guess having Kid Rock playing for 10-15 minutes was more important than having the tag title match? I don't care how good the performance was or anything, it's a wrestling show, no one ordered it to watch Kid fucking Rock. It was also annoying how there was no introductions for the Divas battle royal so we didn't get to see the past Divas in there. Most of them were eliminated before the announcers noticed them! Santina was very funny as always. Match was fucking pointless otherwise.

Jericho versus the legends was as good as could be hoped for, really. Snuka could barely move and did nothing (may as well have had the Iron Sheik.) Piper ttried, bless him, but look terrible. Steamboat was really good though considering his age and the fact he hasn't wrestled for 15 years. The Rourke thing fell flat because he hasn't been involved in the angle until now and it took far too long for him to get in the ring (but I guess that was more important than the tag title match too!)

The Hardy match seemed a bit rushed because they just went right into hitting spots right away. They were good spots, at least. I noticed Matt was bleeing and a guy ran up and rubbed him down with a towel because WWE is PG now and you can't show blood even on ppv apparently (but beating up women is still fine.) Pathetic. Nice finish with Matt hitting the twist of fate with Jeff's head lodged in a chair.

JBL/Rey was pointless with Rey winning in like a minute. JBL retired (again) afterwards. No one cared (again).

Michaels/Undertaker was even better than expected. Best WM match in years. Just amazing work from them both. Not much more to say, but it's worth downloading the show just for this. Undertaker won of course.

Edge/Cena/Show was okay. Edge is pretty much a jobber at this point, bumping all over the place for fucking Cena and hitting like two moves in the entire match. Sick of Cena winnign the title at WM, sick of his stupid face.

HHH/Orton was going along fine then it just ended anti-climitically. Why did HHH stop after the sledgehammer shot to hit a bunch of lame punches THEN hit the pedigree? It almost looked like the finish was blown and someone was supposed to run in. Orton should have won.

The one match every wanted to see delivered bigtime, the rest was meh.

What divas showed up?

Sunny, Victoria, Torrie Wilson, Molly Holly, Jackie Gayda that I saw (someone said Nidia as well.) Mae Young was only a timekeeper, thankfully.

Don't even know who they are.

WELL WHO DO YOU KNOW?

The older ones, like Sable, Chyna, and I remember a very muscular but ugly black woman. I know who Lita is.

Watched the first third so far. The MiTB wasn't that great really. A couple of cool high spots and some decent choreography but nothing that sets it apart from any other MiTB match. The crowd didn't seem to like Punk winning. Probably would of been a better move to give it to Christian.

Ricky Steamboat = pure ownage. He's kept himself in great nick and put on a very entertaining match with Jericho. Piper and Snukka should not be wrestling however.

More to come.

Was this also the one where Mickey Rourke "wrestled?"

No, he just took five minutes to get in the ring and unconvincingly punch out Jericho.

Holy shit that leap over the top rope was a really bad botch by The Undertaker. He's lucky to be alive!

Yeah, I actually feared the match would end there and they were going to do a countout. But then they went on to just have a crazy number of nearfalls. Undertaker's facials evertime Shawn kicked out were classic too (CAP THEM.)

I wanna fuck Lillian Garcia quite a lot.

I think about that every year.

She's a lesbian according to some message board I read a while ago.
