NBC’s planned remake of popular syndicated action-adventure series Xena: Warrior Princess has taken a step forward with a Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo - Day 2writer hire. Lost alum Javier Grillo-Marxuach has been tapped to pen the project, which henbc logo will executive produce with the original series’ executive producers Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi. So far, there is no involvement by Lucy Lawless, who toplined the 1995-2001 series, though NBC brass had been open to having her on board in some capacity.

Underscoring NBCUniversal’s hopes to capitalize on the property’s global appeal, the new series is being produced by NBC’s international production unit NBC International Television Studios, headed by Michael Edelstein and JoAnn Alfano.

Grillo-Marxuach (The 100) recently sold ABC drama project Black Stilleto with Mila Kunis executive producing. He is repped by ICM Partners and Jackoway Tyerman.

Javier Grillo-Marxuach was also a writer on Lost. He seems like a nice guy, I follow him on twitter and tumblr. I don't know how I feel about a Xena reboot, though. MAYBE IT WON'T SUCK?

NBC is not exactly known for it's quality programming these days is it? Also if the show does not do really well, it will just get cancelled. Which is a thing NBC likes to do iirc.

Better than Fox, though. Fox buys shows with great premises, chokeslams the poor things all over the schedule so they never attract an audience, then shitcans 'em for not attracting an audience. It's like Fox is run by a pack of 15 year olds with ADHD.

Also, fuck all these reboots/remakes. Christ, you'd think if Hollywood can pay writers to puke up old shit, they can pay writers to come up with new shit.

I miss the golden age of syndicated television: Hercules, Xena, Star Trek: TNG, Highlander, Babylon 5...
