Sheesh....

Girl with peanut allergy dies after kiss.

SAGUENAY, Quebec (AP) -- A 15-year-old girl with a peanut allergy has died after being kissed by her boyfriend following his snack of peanut butter.

Christina Desforges died last week a few days after receiving the kiss.

The teenager, who lived in Saguenay, about 155 miles (250 kilometers) north of Quebec City, received a shot of Adrenalin immediately after being kissed but did not recover.

The official cause of death was not released.

Dr. Nina Verreault, an allergist at the Chicoutimi Hospital in Saguenay, did not want to comment on the case, but said peanut allergies are seldom fatal.

About 100 people in the United States die of food allergies every year, most from exposure to nuts. Canadian statistics are not available.

An autopsy is expected to reveal the exact cause of the teenager's death.

This is crazy... I was reading about a girl who nearly died a few months back just from smelling a Reeses that another student was eating. As a result, anything containing peanuts was banned from this school of several thousand students. I predict american farmers will soon be paid not to grow peanuts and all peanut products will be removed from stores. It is our duty to prevent a tragedy like this from ever happening here in the USA.

i just love reeses peanut butter cups...shame I can't get them locally.
But what does this have to do with me?

I'm allergic to peanuts, although I'm not dead yet:P

some people have it worse than others, i think - I can smell peanut and it doesn't have an effect, but I can't eat even a hint of peanut, or else i'm sick.

it's a new phenomena, growing rapidly - and no one really knows why.

No no no... she didn't die so much from the peanut allergy (it certainly didn't help)-- it was more due to the fact that she got the kiss of death.

This is really tragic, I mean if your kid is run over you can at least come to terms with it but this is just sickening. The poor lad as well. This will haunt him forever.

Well, peanut allergic reactions are intense and severe. People allergic can go into anaphalactic shock from literally ingesting peanut dust. That leads to palpatations then a coma then death.

And it happens FAST. She could have been perfectly healthy its just that even a trace of peanut being ingested is the same as if we ate a trace of cyanide. We would be screwed.

yes. only a speck of peanut is enough to make me feel ill - luckily i've never gone into anyphylaxis but I have an adrenilin injector in case.

tragic cases like the one in the OP highlight that allergies need to be taken seriously
