2024 nba all-star game

The 2024 NBA All-Star Game will be an exhibition game played on February 18, 2024. It will be the 73rd edition of the NBA All-Star Game. It will be hosted by the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. This is the second time that Indianapolis will host the All-Star Game; the last time the game was played in the city was in 1985 at the Hoosier Dome.

Virginia Union, Winston-Salem State to play in 2024 NBA HBCU Classic

The CIAA matchup will take place at Gainbridge Fieldhouse as a part of NBA All-Star 2024 in Indianapolis.

The NBA today announced that the Virginia Union University Panthers (VUU) and Winston-Salem State University Rams (WSSU) men’s basketball programs have been selected to compete in the 2024 NBA HBCU Classic presented by AT&T. The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) matchup will take place on Saturday, Feb. 17 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana as part of NBA All-Star 2024. The third NBA HBCU Classic will be simulcast on TNT, ESPN2 and NBA TV. The teams were selected in collaboration with the CIAA. The 2024 NBA HBCU Classic presented by AT&T continues the league’s ongoing, year-round commitment to advancing educational, career and economic opportunities in partnership with HBCU institutions as well as increasing support and awareness for HBCU athletics.

Earlier this year, during NBA All-Star 2023 in Utah, HBCU programming included the HBCU Event Intern Program, where 13 students served as paid interns across different NBA disciplines to gain experience working in sports and learn from NBA staff. The students also participated in several other career development events and opportunities. Additionally, over the summer, 74 students participated in the NBA HBCU Fellowship program, which provides career development opportunities in the business of basketball for undergraduate and graduate students from HBCUs.

Like last week, Antetokounmpo and James were way ahead of the rest of the field. Antetokounmpo was the leading vote-getter overall and the only one with more than 4 million votes, while James led the West with 3.9 million votes.

Steph Curry, Sabrina Ionescu to compete in All-Star 3-point contest

NBA all-time 3-point leader Stephen Curry and WNBA single-season 3-point record holder Sabrina Lonescu will compete in a 3-point contest at All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis on Feb. 17. This is the first time an NBA and WNBA player will go head to head in this kind of competition, which the NBA announced Tuesday. The Warriors' Curry will shoot from the NBA 3-point line with NBA basketballs while the Liberty's Ionescu will shoot from the WNBA 3-point line with WNBA basketballs. Ionescu won the 2023 WNBA All-Star 3-point shootout, scoring 37 points on 25-of-27 shooting - the most in WNBA or NBA history. Curry holds the previous record at 31.

Downtown Indy hotels nearly sold out for the 2024 NBA All-Star Game

The calendar is almost about to turn to February, and in Indianapolis, much of the month will be all about the NBA All-Star Game. From Gainbridge Fieldhouse to the JW Marriott, nearly all of downtown Indy will get in on the festivities over the next three weeks. As the countdown starts, several hotels in downtown Indianapolis are already fully booked. “We’re super excited as a community to really blow the doors off and deliver Hoosier hospitality,” said Patrick Tamm, the president and CEO of the Indiana Restaurant and Lodging Association. Tamm said some 35 hotels part of the NBA block in the core of downtown are just about sell out. “The NBA room block is just astronomical for us right now,” he said. “We’ve also seen lots of people book a lot of unique fan experiences as well. People throughout Indiana and the Midwest, and frankly this is an international event.”

Tyrese Maxeyscored a career-high 51 points hours after being selected to his first All-Star Game, helping the Philadelphia 76ers overcome star center Joel Embiid's absence for a 127-124 victory over the Utah Jazz on Thursday night. After missing three games because of a sprained left ankle, Maxey topped his previous career high of 50 -- set Nov. 12 at home against Indiana -- with two free throws with 4.1 seconds left.

Jalen Brunson named All-Star, scores 40 to lift Knicks

Jalen Brunson goes out of his way to never let anyone in on what he's thinking or feeling. But for even the most stoic of stars, everything that happened Thursday night -- from making his first All-Star team to scoring 40 points and leading his New York Knicks to a come-from-behind victory at Madison Square Garden over the Indiana Pacers was too much for him to ignore. After winning a pair of national titles at Villanova , he slipped to the second round before he was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks. Then, after helping Dallas make it to the Western Conference finals, he signed with the Knicks as a free agent in the summer of 2022. He narrowly missed making the All-Star team last year and missed being named a starter last week.

Bucks' Doc Rivers named East coach for All-Star Game

With his first win as coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, Doc Rivers punched his ticket to the All-Star Game. The Bucks' 129=117 comeback victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday night clinched the honor for Rivers and his staff, who will coach the Eastern Conference All-Stars against the West on Feb. 18 in Indianapolis. This will be the fourth All-Star appearance for Rivers as a coach, previously doing so in 2008, 2011 and 2021. He is the fifth person to coach in the All-Star Game after taking over a team during the season, which happened most recently when Tyronn Lue replaced David Blatt with the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2015-16 season.

It's not a distinction that Rivers, who is 1-2 since being hired by Milwaukee on Jan. 26, claims he earned. He intends to give his All-Star ring and bonus to Adrian Griffin, who went 30-13 as the Bucks coach before being fired and replaced by Rivers. Milwaukee went 2-1 during Joe Prunty's interim stint. "That is ridiculously bad. It really is," Rivers said of getting the All-Star nod after one win. "Well, Adrian's going to get some money, that's for sure. And a ring. It's one of these quirky things. I think there should be a rule somehow that someone else does it other than me."

For the first time, the NBA will play on glass. Part of All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis -- including the entire All-Star Saturday Night lineup -- will be played on a state-of-the-art, full video LED court that will be installed at Lucas Oil Stadium, the league said Monday.

Trae Young and Scottie Barnes added to All-Star team as injury replacements

Atlanta's Trae Young is going back to the All-Star Game after all, and Toronto's Scottie Barnes will play in the NBA's showcase event for the first time. They replaced Philadelphia's Joel Embiid and New York's Julius Randle, both of whom are unable to play because of injury. Embiid had knee surgery on Tuesday and Randle is dealing with a dislocated shoulder. By NBA rule, the commissioner chooses replacements should an All-Star not be able to play because of injury

Young entered Tuesday eighth in the NBA in scoring at 27.3 points per game and second in assists at a career-best 10.9 per game. Barnes, the NBA's rookie of the year in 2022, is averaging career-highs of 20.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.2 steals per game.

Stephen Curry, Sabrina Ionescu talk impact of 3-point contest

Sabrina Ionescu grew up in the Bay Area in California and enjoyed going to Golden State Warriors games, especially to watch Stephen Curry. When Ionescu was a senior at Oregon in 2020, Curry brought his daughters, Riley and Ryan, to one of the Ducks' games at Cal. But on Saturday in Indianapolis, Ionescu, the New York Liberty's star guard, gets to do something she never imagined: compete against Curry in a 3-point shooting contest at NBA All-Star weekend. The competition was announced last month, and Ionescu and Curry appeared on a video call with media Tuesday to discuss it.

Curry is a two-time winner of the NBA's 3-point challenge (2015, 2021). Ionescu won the 3-point contest last July at the WNBA All-Star Game in Las Vegas, scoring 37 of a possible 40 points. It broke Curry's record of 31 points and was an internet sensation, as Ionescu at one point hit 20 shots in a row. It was initially announced that Ionescu would shoot from the WNBA's shorter 3-point line, which is set at 22 feet, 1 3/4 inches at the top of the key, compared with the NBA's 23 feet, 9 inches. But Ionescu requested to shoot from the NBA line, the same as Curry.

Another NBA All-Star Game change? Why this time it's probably best

Imagine an NBA All-Star Game where one superstar broke another's nose by playing aggressive defense at the rim in the third quarter. Picture one of the best players in NBA history angrily chiding another all-time great at the final horn because one of them passed up taking the final shot. These things happened in the same All-Star Game, and not that long ago. In the 2012 game in Orlando, Dwyane Wade fractured Kobe Bryant's nose to prevent a layup with eight minutes left in the third quarter. Instead, the league is trying another makeover. Or, rather, an unmakeover. For Sunday's All-Star game, the rosters will go back to the East vs. West format. The Elam Ending has been eliminated, and the NBA has vowed to limit lengthy pregame ceremonies that players said made it hard to properly warm up and prepare for the game. The in-season tournament did, for the most part, bring the desired effect as there was a marked increase in intensity in early regular season games. Whether the players collectively will respond to the call for a better showing for the All-Star Game is yet to be seen. It probably couldn't get any worse.

Mathurin scored 18 points and hit the game-winning shot in the semifinal appearance against Team Tamika before helping in a balanced effort against Team Detlef in the final. For his efforts, Mathurin was named the game's MVP and drew numerous MVP chants from the Gainbridge Fieldhouse crowd throughout the games.
