Shareef O'Neal, son of Shaquille O'Neal, transferring to LSU

Shareef O'Neal is following his Hall of Fame father's path and will transfer to LSU, he told Sports Illustrated. Shareef
O'Neal played in 13 games for UCLA this season before announcing last month that he would be transferring out of the program. O'Neal, the No. 32 recruit in the ESPN 100 for the 2018 class, was averaging 2.2 points and 2.9 rebounds in 10.2 minutes. The 6-foot-9 O'Neal sat out his first season at UCLA after being diagnosed with a right anomalous coronary artery and undergoing open-heart surgery to correct the issue. He was cleared to return to the court last March.

Shaquille O'Neal, a 2016 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, played for the Tigers from 1989 to 1992. He was the Associated Press' men's college basketball player of the year in 1991, and his No. 33 was retired by the school. Shareef O'Neal could literally be in his father's shadow at times at LSU, as the school installed a statue of Shaq dunking outside its men's basketball practice facility in 2011.

College Basketball Power Rankings: Maryland moving in the right direction

The Terrapins would have been at a disadvantage had they lost at Michigan State on Saturday night, but with the win, they're in the driver's seat moving forward. It's clear that Penn State only one game back of the Terps has an easier finishing stretch, and the Nittany Lions also own the tiebreaker. Maryland hasn't lost at home all season, but the three remaining road games are difficult: versus Ohio State, Minnesota and Rutgers. Remember, the Scarlet Knights are 17-0 at the RAC this season. The key will be getting a consistent third option behind Cowan and Smith. Darryl Morsell has played well in recent weeks, including 18 points at Illinois, while Eric Ayala had some big first-half buckets against Michigan State.

#7 Maryland (21-4)

#1: Baylor (23-1)
#2: Gonzaga (26-1)
#3: San Diego State (26-0)
#4: Kansas (22-3)
#5: Duke (22-3)

Notre Dame stages major comeback, beats North Carolina 77-76
North Carolina: The ACC cellar-dwelling Tar Heels continued to careen toward potentially their first losing record since 2001-02, when they were 8-20 during the middle season of ex-ND coach Matt Doherty's three-year tenure. With five regular-season games left, they'll have to win all of those and win at least twice in the ACC Tourney to avoid a sub-.500 fate.

UNC's Roy Williams after another close loss: You can either compete or 'curl up and start crying'
North Carolina (10-16, 3-12) blew a 15-point lead to the Irish and has lost three of its past four games on last-second shots. North Carolina is 1-6 in games decided by three points or fewer this season, and that's tied for the most such losses in Division I this season.

No. 1 Baylor beats Oklahoma for Big 12-record 23rd consecutive win
Led by Jared Butler's 22 points, the Bears broke a tie with Kansas, which won 22 straight during the 1996-97 season. The Sooners were hosting a No. 1 team for the first time in 23 years.

The current AP top 5 is a combined 65-1 since Jan. 1, with the lone loss coming from Kansas against Baylor.

Top-5
No.1 Baylor
No.2: Gonzaga
No,3: Kansas
No.4: San Diego State
No.5: Dayton

The NCAA tournament will be here soon enough -- are you ready?

This is not a drill. I repeat. Not. A. Drill. You wouldn't start prepping for the SAT the day before the exam, would you? How about making Valentine's Day reservations the night of the 14th? Or run for the first time in months and expect to complete a marathon later that week? No. No you wouldn't. So why would you wait until the excitement of Selection Sunday to start thinking about your bracket? If you don't like success, then by all means. But if you want a fighting chance, it helps to prepare, and with the countdown clock at one month, now is as good a time as any.
