Removal of the vaccine mandate means unvaccinated Major League Baseball players would be allowed to play in Toronto in the playoffs should the Blue Jays make the postseason. It would also apply to the National Basketball Association and the National Hockey League. Unvaccinated players are currently not allowed to cross the border into Canada.

Former Georgia coach Vince Dooley, 90, released from a hospital after bout with COVID-19​

Former Georgia coach Vince Dooley has been released from a hospital after being treated for COVID-19. Georgia announced Wednesday that Dooley, 90, was released from an Athens-area hospital on Monday following a "mild case" of COVID-19. He was admitted to the hospital on Saturday. Dooley said in a statement he plans to attend No. 1 Georgia's homecoming game against Vanderbilt on Saturday and participate in a planned book signing. Dooley was 201-77-10 in 25 years as coach of the Bulldogs and also served as athletic director until 2004.

The current NHL COVID testing protocols state that any individual who develops symptoms consistent with COVID-19 will receive a point-of-care molecular COVID-19 test. If the test is positive, the individual must self-isolate.

Nuggets' Nikola Jokic enters health and safety protocols​

Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic entered the NBA's health and safety protocols Tuesday and is out for Wednesday's game against the New York Knicks.
Jokic, the two-time reigning MVP, is averaging 20.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 8.9 assists in 13 games this season. He's the 10th NBA player to enter the protocols this season. Players are not required to undergo regular testing this season, but there are certain situations where they must be checked for COVID-19. Examples of when players must be tested include when they are exhibiting any symptoms, or when someone in their household tests positive for COVID-19. Entering the protocols does not necessarily mean that someone is positive for the virus.

Rhode Island vs. Milwaukee canceled because of COVID-19 outbreak​

Rhode Island's game against Milwaukee scheduled for Thursday has been canceled because of a COVID-19 outbreak within the Rams' program, the school announced Monday. The game will not be rescheduled this season. It's believed to be the first Division I men's college basketball game canceled or postponed because of COVID-19 in the 2022-23 season.

The men's basketball game between Iowa and Northwestern scheduled for Wednesday in Iowa City will not be played due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols within the Northwestern program. The two schools will work with the Big Ten to reschedule the game.

Four teammates of world champion Remco Evenepoel tested positive for the coronavirus and followed the Soudal Quick-Step leader by pulling out of the three-week Giro d'Italia, their team said Wednesday. Evenepoel had won Sunday's individual time trial to reclaim the leader's pink jersey, but his team later announced that he tested positive for COVID-19.
