Help! Annoying alarm on laptop! WTF?!

I can't recall ever hearing a more annoying sound from a computer. I have been googling for solutions and cannot find any yet.
Note this is not my computer- it is a friends laptop. It won't start up at all. Just annoying alarm. : (
