NEW SCANNERS BREAK CHILD PORN LAWS

The rapid introduction of full body scanners at British airports threatens to breach child protection laws which ban the creation of indecent images of children, the Guardian has learned. Privacy campaigners claim the images created by the machines are so graphic they amount to “virtual strip-searching” and have called for safeguards to protect the privacy of passengers involved.

Ministers now face having to exempt under 18s from the scans or face the delays of introducing new legislation to ensure airport security staff do not commit offences under child pornography laws. They also face demands from civil liberties groups for safeguards to ensure that images from the £80,000 scanners, including those of celebrities, do not end up on the internet.

This problem inadvertently highlights the fact that the scanner’s images are obviously too graphic for adults also and, therefore, should be scrapped. We’ll see how this new development plays out. I still say, “Air travelers of the world unite; you have nothing to lose but your humiliation.”

I love it when it blows up in their faces. Figuratively speaking, of course. BTW it turns out the new scanners were ordered months in advance and the Yemeni terror plot was very convenient conspiracy lol.

Do they really think this is the main purpose of these scanners?

Trust The Guardian to blow things out of proportion. They're usually too busy checking their own spelling to report anything.

Well, the intended purpose is really irrelevant if what they do breaks an existing law. Especially that kind of law. I'm not sure how the laws are there, but they're very strict here regarding that kind of thing. They would be prevented from implementing them here unless A: The laws regarding the photographing of children unclothed was changed, or B: The scanners were modified to block those areas out.

They'll set an age limit for scanning. Of course that will be after some irate mother files a million dollar lawsuit against the government after her little girl gets scanned and some TSA employee is caught polishing one out over the images.
