Montgomery County police have arrested a man in connection with a homicide in which the victim was stabbed more than 100 times and buried in a park.

Miguel Angel Lopez-Abrego, 19, was arrested on Nov. 11 in North Carolina. He has since been charged with first-degree murder and was extradited to Montgomery County, where he faced a bond review Wednesday.

County police said a man's body was found on Sept. 5 buried in a grave at Wheaton Regional Park. The victim’s body was exhumed and sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, who ruled the death a homicide by sharp force injuries.

Investigators said the homicide was committed by MS-13 gang members, including Lopez-Abrego. According to charging documents, a member of the MS-13 gang told police that he and nine other gang members "had planned for approximately two weeks to lure the victim from the Annapolis area with the purpose of killing him and disposing his body in the wooded area of the park."

The charging documents state that the victim was choked, stabbed, decapitated and dismembered before his body was buried in a hole.

The gang member who spoke with police said that Lopez-Abrego "was the first to stab the victim when he thrust a 15-inch knife through the victim's chest," charging documents said.

The victim's identity has yet to be confirmed, police said.
