It's pretty sad as he was a huge part of why Star Wars (and other things) looked the way it did, not to mention actually helping getting it made.

I'm quite sad about this. I mean, it's sad when old celebrities die, but Ralph McQuarrie really had talent. And he shaped some of my favourite shows and movies. Aside from Star Wars, he worked on Star Trek (TMP and TVH), BSG (which is part of why it got accused of ripping off Star Wars) and Buck Rogers (which used a discarded viper design... or maybe it was the other way around?). And of course he's inspired countless designers since. Really a great legacy. Along with John Berkey, Syd Mead and a few others, he's shaped our imaginations and expectations for the future.

He had Parkinson's in his later years and couldn't draw anymore...just to make this thread even more upsetting!
