nuTrek has, apparently, taken Gay Sulu out of The Closet. Gay George Takei was reportedly outraged because he "played Sulu as straight." Huh. Because after all the ballyhoo about Out Sulu, I totally missed it, watching Star Trek: Beyond. For all I could tell, he was visiting his extended family, not his husband and kids.
But I digress. The point is, it seems like so many episodes of ST:TOS, they wind up hosed because the aliens take away their phasers and communicators. If Sulu had been Out, they could have just had him smuggle a phaser and/or communicator up his butt every time they beamed down.
But then I got to thinking about transporters. Maybe they can remember where your clothes and gear are, but it seems like things could go awry with stuff hidden in your colon.
But then I got to thinking about Artificial Heart Picard. Unless transporter technology radically improved in the Next Generation, Gay Sulu could have regularly beamed down with stuff up his butt.
