'Silent but deadly': Far-right caucus mocked over new group with unfortunate acronym
Rumors are circulating on Capitol Hill that the Freedom Caucus is preparing to launch a FART war. The far-right House Republican group Thursday appeared to be plotting a defensive tactic against moderate counterparts and has assembled to assist them in this effort a Floor Action Response Team, or as Politico's Congress reporter Olivia Beavers dubbed it in acronym, a FART."House Freedom Caucus members are signing up to take shifts to guard the House floor in order to prevent resolutions they’d consider unsavory from slipping through that could curb their power," Beavers reported on X.
"This Floor Action Response Team ('FART') aims to guard against a voice vote or unanimous consent vote where action could be stealthily taken against them and their members." Beavers received word from anonymous sources, as did Punchbowl News's Mica Soellner. "Freedom Caucus members plotting defensive tactic to man the House floor today to avoid any meddling by moderates," Soellner reported.
The caucus has concerns that Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY), not a caucus member but a staunch conservative, and Chip Roy (R-TX), the caucus' policy chair, could find themselves knocked from the powerful House Rules Committee by moderates, both Beavers and Soellner reported.
"Technically would be possible to file unanimous consent on that," Soellner said in a tweet. "One member told me if moderates try and kick off those members, it would be 'an act of war.'" Tempers were running high in the Rules Committee Thursday as lawmakers fumed over delays in funding aid to a war-beleaguered Ukraine in a hearing on three foreign aid packages. Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) was jumpingout of her seat to condemn far-right Republicans who complained about border security after killing an immigration bill, she said, at Trump's behest.
"For months and months, we have been diddling around," DeLauro shouted. "If that's the way we want to be remembered in history, it's certainly not the way I want to be remembered!"
The unfortunate acronym was not lost upon social media users who reacted as social media users are apt to do.
"I’m sure the Floor Action Response Team will not be silent, but deadly," replied @Jp10E.
