So how's that "social contract" working out?

The Question

Eternal
You know, the one statists trot out when people object to taxation?
"But but but, taxes are the price you pay for a civilized society!"

So where's that civilized society we're all supposed to allow ourselves to let the government rob us to pay for?

SCOTUS held that cops aren't obligated to protect us or our property. So what, exactly, do we get out of that "social contract"? "You let us rob you and, in exchange, we'll rob you"? And if you can't opt out, is it actually a contract at all?

How many of us are getting refunds for non-delivery on that civilized society we're told we'll get, but don't, then?
