Scarlett Johansson's first music video

Another track, the title one. Better, but still pretty bad.

1. Her vocals seem like they're almost-too-low for her, someone should have moved them up a couple keys and she would probably sound a lot better.
2. They buried those vocals behind a lot of reverb / deep in the mix, which gives the impression that the producer was trying to hide the vocals. That's a pretty bad call when you know they're going to get the most scrutiny b/c of who she is. Or at least put out a couple tracks w/ decent vocal performances and bury these two in the album.

Doesn't sound like the kind of voice I'd want to listen too much.

On the plus side: She still has GIGANTIC BREASTS.

They should have their own album.

I've been afraid to listen because I've heard nothing but negative comments about it so far.

UNLIKE MOST ACTRESSES SHE IS ONE I WOULD LIKE TO SUCCEED IN THIS CAREER JUMP.

If she can't sing, why is she? lol.. WHO KNOWS.

Someone told her she had a nice pair of lungs and she misunderstood.

They're interviewing her in this month's Uncut ( a 'serious' music mag I sometimes get), and they're all over her as if it's a triumph. They ask her why the transition from acting to singing is so easy for many(!).

Then they give her album 3/5 stars, which is distinctly middle of the road for a mag that seems to have a directive to pimp the shit out of something. It's like saying "Well, OK, we'll say she's great because we've been told to, but we'll not give the album a spectacular mark". Giving it 3/5 after you've built it up is effectively a 2/5.

Stick to acting, even though a large number of movie pundits don't think she can even do that very well.

Oh, and I'm fed up with everyone covering Tom Waits. Only Tom Waits should sing Tom Waits. Give her something more her limit - Nena's '99 Red Balloons' should suffice.

Uncut is probably ecstatic to have a singing celebrity to cover other than Britney, Lindsey or Paris. They'll ride Scarlett for as long as they can. Which will be one album.

I don't even know who Tom Waits is, lol.

I think it's because someone said, "That girl can blow."

How will I ever learn if I don't ask questions. :(

Wiki him, Wacky.

He's a singer-songwriter with an amazingly rich 30+ year back catalogue of beatifully penned songs. He's also made a few forays into acting, with bit parts in Domino & Dracula.

You can pick up a typical 2-3 disc set for pennies these days, and it's well worth it if you're into exploring new avenues of music. I could listen to it all day long.

He has 2 or 3 distinct 'periods' that can be roughly delineated by the label he was signed with at the time. His Asylum years go from about '73 to '80, mostly made up of his scat & barroom ballad stuff; When he signed with Island from about '83 to '98 he got very experimental; howl & growl, German cabaret & banging pots, etc and a lot of his old fan base was turned off by it, but I think much of it is brilliant (with one exception*.) In '99 he came out with his first on the Anti label, Mule Variations, which was the first Waits album I ever heard & bought...it was love at first listen. I've got just about everything he's put out, as well as a few bootlegs. His entire oeuvre takes up a full 1/5 of my old-ass Ipod Mini.

As for how to quantify the newer material...I'm tempted to say its a hybrid of his Asylum & Island stuff but that's way too simplistic...I'm sure Gagh could wax far more eloquently about it.

*The Black Rider, which for the life of me, I just cannot get into.

Also, he has a growly, gravelly voice. He's one of those artists who some people love and appreciate for his songwriting, and who other people can't stand listening to because he doesn't have a "nice" voice.

Much like the way people feel about Bob Dylan.

I actually think Waits is an easier access point to that type of music than Dylan.

Thanks for the info.
