Grunberg likes to hug himself in front of people

Fuddlemiff

Is this real life?
Yesterday I went to the London Expo convention and sat in on a few cool Q&A panels. Got there a bit late and discovered the cue was incredibly short. But something made us very uneasy... something wasn't right. As we walked up to the ticket booth we suddenly cottoned on that we were the only ones in the huge room who weren't wearing jet black burkas. Apparently there was some sort of Muslim expo also taking place that day (the sight of orthodox religious people lined up at cookie stands alongside the Power Rangers and Jack Sparrow is something I still can't shake off). Anyway, after discovering the line was actually circling around the building we cued up and after an hour we made it to the Heroes panel just in time. We had to stand up, though, some guy dressed as a giant cat got in our way so all the seats were gone by the time we arrived.

Greg Grunberg wears the same clothes as his character. Almost all the questions were for him, of course. He says episode 8 will have the biggest reveal they've ever done, which I think is the explanation of why the Speedster is working for "Linderman". The puppeteer dude was very sarcastic. When they left the stage Grunberg skipped about in a really weird way.

Straight after this was the Merlin panel. Now this was disturbing. Before everyone came on they played a trailer showing upcoming episodes. The room was filled with 13 year old girls and they screamed each and every time Merlin or Arthur came on screen. Seriously, it's been on about a month, when did Merlin become the Beatles? Me and my friend were annoyed at Richard Wilson not getting any love, so we wolf whistled when he was shown onscreen.

When the stars came on it was the same story. Lots of screaming. Merlin seemed pretty nervous, and a lot more Irish than I'd expected. Someone directed a question at him and he sheepishly asked Arthur if he wanted to answer it instead.

They didn't reveal anything all that interesting, except that Gwen really will end up being Arthur's queen somehow.

After having some lunch we came back for the Galactica panel, but we were early so we went in to get good seats. The Primeval panel was taking place, but it wasn't very good. I'm not a big fan, but it's okay. Anyway, the cast didn't make much effort, especially thingamy from S Club and her boyfriend who has the teeth. The fit woman was fit, though. They're writing episodes for season 4 even though season 3 hasn't been on yet.

Maybe they weren't in a good mood because they knew everyone was coming in to get good seats for Colonel Tigh. We went and sat in the front row for his panel and it was the best ever. :D Michael Hogan's SO cool. The questions were good anyway, but his answers had so much depth. You can tell he really cares about the series.

He revealed how they made The Plan. Apparently the director for the mini series and most of the other main episodes (beginnings/endings of seasons) shoots A LOT of extra footage, some from multiple points of view. So they've gone back through the shots they didn't use and edited some of it in with newly shot footage to create new scenes. He gave the example of Six in the miniseries when she says to somebody off camera that she'd been expecting them. It looks like we'll find out who it is.

Another interesting thing he said was that the funeral scene in the miniseries when Adama does his speech was the very first scene they shot and everyone was a bit nervous and unfamiliar with eachother. The bit where Adama stirs them all up by shouting "SO SAY WE ALL!" until they join in was ad libbed. Quite cool. :) Michael Hogan finished the Q&A by re-enacting it with us and then saluting as everyone shouted "SO SAY WE ALL!" to his satisfaction. Very dorky, but very cool IMO.

Also, he says "Gods" a lot for real.

Excellent report! Curse those giant cat people.

The Merlin kid looks kind of sexy there!

Yeah, he has a certain sparkle in his eye. The fact that he was freaked out by all the jailbait was kinda cute too. :)

Also, thingamy from S Club looks like she's fingering herself in that pic.

You get to go to the coolest places

It only costs £9 entry as well. Probably worth a trip down to London. The next one's in May so with a bit of luck there'll be some Star Trek cast members attending.

Thats very reasonable, although last time I checked, trains to london were quite expensive now

Argh! The px won't load!

Is Brea Grant cute in real life? She looks cute on Heroes but I can't decide if she's list-worthy or not.

I couldn't go to one of these things without wanting to injure, maim or eliminate upwards of 50% of the crowd. I'll bet the actors & actresses largely despise them too.

Not Grunberg. He wants to give them all a hug.

The crowd are generally nice people, but the cosplayers can be a bit too hardcore. There's also a significant contingent of people offering "free hugs". I'm not sure what started that little phenomenon, but I find it a little disturbing. I think most of the actors like the crowds, but they're also there for the money. They get free flights and free hotels, plus about $5,000 to attend, I believe.

Brea Grant's cute and seems like a nice person. When asked which Hero was her favourite, she said "my hero is my mom". Several audience members threw up at that point.

Argh! The px won't load!

That's weird, they're on my website so everyone should be able to see them.

Are any of the "free hugs" people hot? I'm guessing no...

They're mostly tweenagers. I did see one boy (prolly about 14, very nerdy) get a hug from a really pretty but jailbaity girl. I can see the attraction of the free hugs malarkey. Still weird though.

They only load partially, then they stop.. no matter how many times I refresh!

Then the Emperor has already won.
