Battlestar Galactica

I just finished watching this after it FINALLY downloaded.

A-maz-ing.

There was so much cool in there I really don't know where to start. From the battles with the new and old Centurians (which was just a BIG KISS to the fans who wanted more of them), to the "It's all okay there will be peace with the Cyl- OH SHIITTTT" which was really well dome, to Cavil shooting himself, and Racetrack dying BUT TAKING OUT THE CYLON COLONY AFTERWARDS FUCK YEAH RACETRACK, RDM's cameo (I thought was hilarious) AND SO MUCH MOOOREEE AHHH SOOO GOOD.

Hearing the original Stu Phillips theme as Galactica went into the sun was simply beautiful.

I'm really glad they didn't go into exactly what things like Kara and the Head Baltar and Sixes were (although I wouldn't be surprised if The Plan does), as I do feel it would go against the show, which has always had fate and "an act of God(s)" as major parts of the plots anyway. If they had said "OH YEAH EVERYTHING WAS PLANNED BY ALIENS/THE SHIP OF LIGHTS/WHATEVER ALL ALONG" it would've been terrible.

RIP Racetrack. I'll miss you.

Heh, I just realised the first words of every original series episode sum up the ending.

There are those who believe that life here... began out there.

The pigeon symbolized Kara flying away! (maybe!) The first Lee/pigeon flashback didn't make a lot of sense, but after Kara vanished and the bird flew away it kinda did.

Yeah, I think that's why they did it, although it's still not an important point in his life like the other flashbacks were. I don't know why everything needs to be symbolised anyway. We know she'd completed her task and had to leave, she even spelled it out herself. *shrug*

Incidentally, Jamie Bamber's on my tv right now doing his Law & Order business. It has a really good theme tune. Sounds kind of like an old western.

I think it was probably to symbolize the deeper relationship between Kara and Lee, and why they could never really be together. I DON'T KNOW. I was really surprised (pleasantly) that after all that Kara and Lee didn't get back together, since the show lurved its love squares.

No one has posted the link to the Chicago Tribune article yet, so here it is http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune...ca-daybreak-finale-moore-mcdonnell-olmos.html

OH.. this part right here explains why Daybreak pt 1 wasn't very satisfying.

MR: I understand the network’s needs, but I wish we’d seen it all at once. That first hour really works best as part of a whole.

RDM: Well, that’s the thing. I argued very long and hard against doing that. It was not written that way. In fact, when I wrote the script, it was not even written as acts [i.e. Act 1, Act 2, Act 3]. I wrote the script as a two-hour movie and it was meant to be seen that way. But it was one of those things where it was like, “Well, they’re giving you the extra money…”

MR: "So just shut up."

RDM: Just shut up at a certain point and move on. They wanted, for their own scheduling purposes, they felt that people were just not going to commit to tuning in at 8 p.m. for a show they were used to seeing later, nobody watches a three-hour movie, everybody watches a two-hour movie, blah blah blah. Episode 21 [“Daybreak, Part 1”], it’s not an episode. It’s a completely unsatisfying experience. I know that, because it was never intended to be [on its own].

MR: It’s just the first act of a play.

RDM: It’s the first act of a play. It doesn’t make any sense, it doesn’t have a coherent arc to it. It’s just a chunk that’s been broken off. I did manage to get them to agree to show all three hours this Friday. My hope is that some people will watch all three or at least they’ll watch them all together. It’ll live forever on DVD and they’ll watch it that way, and that’s the way it was always intended to be seen.

That's what a lot of people didn't seem to understand when it aired, even so-called die hard fans who should've known better.

I liked some parts a lot, they did a lot for the fans of the original show, original looking cylons, the original music, the fleet heading off into the sun (set).

I couldnt help but be reminded of hitchikers and the golgofranchens though, I know the crew of the galactica wernt a bunch of telephone sanitisers, but they did end up taking over the world from the original occupants, and for a while the guy in charge of the ship never left his bath.

Who was RDM, was he Rosylns jailbait bf?

Thanks, so I guess he is one of the people that dies every week at the end of the credits.

He's reading the magazine at the very very end on Earth (the second Earth) (to the point where it could actually be RDM playing himself).

EDIT: misunderstood what you meant, Whisky.

Yeah, that's Moore and David Eick in the little skit at the end of every episode.

Judging by some of the auction items from Daybreak, there was a Cally/Tryol flashback that got cut out. Maybe Boxey was there too?!

JAKE THE DOG, YES! Maybe he's the father of all dogs.

Great episode. In terms of the character stuff and the special effects, amazing. In terms of the plot, yeah I would have liked more explanation. Like Doctor Karl Kennedy I prefer Richard Dawkins to the bible so just saying "God did it all" is a bit unsatisfying. The part where Head Baltar and Head Six were talking to Baltar and Six (that's confusing to type) on Earth felt a bit off. I'd have liked more ambiguity or something. But I liked Head Baltar's "you know he doesn't like that name" line so really it's still open. Kara disappearing was a good scene but I guess they just couldn't explain how she had a physical body and a shiny new viper and everything (AND SHE'S NOT DANIEL'S DAUGHTER WTF!?) And the opera house...it was a great visual but why was the vision an opera house all along and not just them running through Galactica. Well, I suppose it was a metaphor or something.

BUT YEAH THERE WAS A LOT OF FRAKKING AWESOME STUFF

Admiral Hoshi lol
AMAZING CGI. Hambil really was trolling.
Racetrack saved the day even in death. Bittersweet. :(
Helo survived to annoy Cassie!
Tyrol killing Tory at the worst possible moment.
Baltar redeemed. I like that he made the decision himself and didn't rely on Head Six.

I nearly cried at Adama walking through the empty hangar deck and riding his viper out and felt like cheering at him throwing off the lie detector and saying that thing about rather spedning his career on a broken down old ship. And then the Fleet flying into the sun (Anders got the best death.) And Roslin dying because EJO is the best actor ever.

Tyrol invented Scotland!

The thing to remember is when they say "God" they don't mean the Judeo-Christian God, they're just referring to some unseen force that seems to guide the actions of the characters, and has from the start of the show. It's not God as in God and The Bible and Jesus.

I felt the same about Starbuck, it's all very well being mysterious and leaving stuff up to the viewer to figure out, but I like it more when I think at least the writers know what the answer is. It seemed like they didn't know how to explain all those questions, so they just said God did it, which is either "nifty ambiguous ending" or "lazy writing" depending on how deep you want to think about it.

Didn't spoil it for me, though, as I didn't expect them to be able to answer all the questions with the time left.

She disappeared in the same way Shelly Godfrey disappeared.

I would link you to a very amusing thread on TBBS where some guy actually said this finale was worse than the Voyager finale, but Neroon already merged it into one of the other "The Ending Sucked" threads.

Nothing is worse than Chakatoy/Seven. Nothing.

She disappeared in the same way Shelly Godfrey disappeared.

In other words, they didn't know what happened either. Like I said, I don't mind not knowing the answers, I'd just like to think the writers did.
