The problem with an Independant Scotland would be the smugness

I want to smell dark matter
From the nationalists. I mean, I don't really care (about anything) but smugness annoys me and can you imagine Alex Salmond on tv with his big fish eyes going on about how great everything is now but then a few years later we're at the point of enforced scottishness and tartan covered robot cops roam the streets making sure everyone is eating shortbread at all times and beat anyone who isn't to death with a bag pipe bag stuffed full of unsold Texas CDs?
 
And then you'd go to civil war over having to re-enter the EU on your own, and switch to the Euro. Many would die.
 
Getting stuck talking to a scottish nationalist is almost as bad as being stuck talking to Vanessa Feltz

I've never gotten a straight answer about this. What kind of government do the nationalists want? A republic? Back to the old monarchy? Something else? What do they propose, exactly?

If and when Scotland secedes, the English monarch will still rule. Scottish independence and Scottish republicanism are two different things. ;)

See, that's the answer I was looking for. To what extent they wanted independence. American style independence (GTFO, Queenie!) or Canadian style.

I don't really understand what they stand to gain from independence, doesn't Scotland get loads of subsidies and wotnot? Is there even much industry besides tourism for the country to support itself?
