Southpark

on a break from forums
Does anyone else watch Southpark? They just started a new season last night. I really liked it, it was really funny. I don't want to spoil it right now for anyone who didn't realize there was a new episode. We can discuss it later.

It was pretty good.. they could have made fun of the ghost shows more and MJ less, would have been funnier.

How did the MJ story go?

Yeah the other MJ/Mr Jefferson South Park episode was funnier.

it was pretty good.

How did the MJ story go?

MJ's holding up the purgatory plane, so all the celebrities are stuck haunting earth. He doesn't want to leave, so he possesses Ike and enters a beauty pageant as a "white girl," just what he always wanted.

Nice.

So he crosses over and they make him an Arabian girl.

Weak episode. Apparently EVERYONE is still entertained by the easiest and most obvious jokes about Michael. It's the gift that keeps on giving apparently. People who would otherwise appreciate something a bit smarter in their comedy tastes are happy to guffaw endlessly at MJ jokes that are older than time itself. Southpark usually does a lot better than this but there is something about MJ that makes comedy writers incredibly lazy and the idiots that think this weak sauce is funny more stupid than usual.

Mr. Jefferson was funny at least. Anyone who watches this and thinks it is funny is clearly a retard. They didn't even try. Michael wants to be a little white girl? Oooh. Edgy.

And before anyone gets all uppity at me because I'm a fan of the man, Mr. Jefferson was more insulting but was also a lot funnier. South Park is equal opportunity comedy and I'm fine with that. This is a personal gripe I've had for years at how you can always get a laugh out of the most recycled of MJ "comedy" material and people still lap it up.

At first I thought they were going to spoof all the paranormal shows that are on TV in the US, and that would have been hilarious because they are so ridiculous... but they went after MJ instead and what could have been a great season premiere turned into something else. Not quite shit, cause there were a few funny moments, but it could have been so much better.

It had it's moments (the ghost hunters and the pageant judges were fucking hilarious), but overall it was just...meh.

I saw this last night, it was pretty shit by South Park standards. The plot was so all over the place it felt more like a Family Guy episode. The Michael Jackson stuff was SO tired, I mean all they had was that he said "that's ignorant!" a lot and he wanted to be white. Really, that's ALL they could come up with? Was it supposed to be funnier now that he's dead? They could have tackled the public reaction to his death in someway, but no, it was just pure laziness. Ike speaking in complete sentences was weird too. And I don't know what "Chakotay" (not the real name) is so all the references to it were lost on me.

The Bo Selecta MJ special was a million times funnier.

Happy to say the 2nd episode of the season was much better than the premiere. I love Butters!

I went to a lecture at the Philly Library shortly after MJ's Memorial show. It's interesting to me that a New York Times columnist made a better joke about MJ's death and the public's reaction to it than "professional" comedy writers.

I can't exactly remember what he said in his speech, but paraphrasing he said, "Americans now have a macabre fascination with their celebrities. Which is how LA ended up footing the bill for MJ's three hour funeral spectacular."

Well, I am totally willing to give Trey and Matt a pass on this one. They have hit 100
home runs for every wiff they've put out, so I'm okay with it. Plus parts of it were
actually funny, after all.

Butters was big pimping.

The third Southpark episode was even better than the second. All you wrestling fans will love it, I think.
