So Fabregas wants out.

Gagh

Understandable when it comes to returning to your childhood club, who also happen to be one of the premier sides in the world - he must look at Xavi and Iniesta and wonder how he'll force his way in there, though.

It's always sad when one of the very best players at your club wants out, but it is pointless keeping them there if they do. Man Utd had a petulant, spoiled Ronaldo at OT for a year when he already wanted away (he wasn't much better beforehand), so it's probably time for Arsenal to collect the £30-35m Barca wil pay.

In other news, Thierry Henry is prepared to go to Major League Soccer in the US. I know he's now reached the stage of his career where he's considered to be moving into veteran territory, but after one bad season at Barcelona, there's no way his skills and abilities have fallen so far that he should be playing in that league.

As much as the fitness levels in the US leagues are exceptional, the squad strenths just are not to the level that Henry has been keeping in his career.

I understand the alure, both financially and in terms of quality of life, but surely he'd be better off in a slightly less aluring Italian or German side. He still has plenty of years and ability left.

NOOOOO!! I do not concur!

Why cant the MLS have a chance to experience the level of play, the elegance Henry can still contribute to the game?!! Have you seen any of the MLS matches? Trust me, when Freddie Ljungberg is playing, the other guys ramp up their game, too!
Dont bogart all the great players for Europe!! Boo Gagh!

Curiousa, I saw Freddie Ljungberg play his last season here before moving to the states, and he was a shadow of what he was when at Arsenal (I'm sure Mentalist would concur).

Whilst I have not seen a single MLS match, you only need to look at the squads to know that there are gaps in quality in all the squads. I mean, Chris Birchall wasn't getting a match at Brighton last season, and then he's a first team regular at LA Galaxy. Brighton have just avoided relegation from the 3rd tier of English football the year he left for Galaxy - this is typical across many of the foreign players in the States.

but that's exactly why we need the older Europeans over here! the gap is so wide(in skill) that even when they're way past their prime in Europe they have so much still to contribute toward raising the bar in MLS. Really. it will only improve the sport in North America and that is something I fervently want to see.

^p.s. Freddie, even 'a shadow of what he was for Arsenal', runs circles around the guys over here.

That's why Henry would be wasted in that league! He has 3 years at least playing in a top European league. He's just had a poor season at frikkin Barcelona, and now it's reckoned he's slipped so far he should be playing MLS??

I understand you wanting to see an increase of ability in N.America, but the best players don't go and play pub footy over here. It's all about testing your ability at the highest levels.

I still don't believe it. Yes, we all know that Fabs will go back to Barca at some point and the insane amount of pressure that Barcelona have put on him by constantly tapping him up is always a cause for concern and I will admit to have being worried about this for a couple of weeks now but I'm not going to start crying until there is more confirmed reports. It says there was an emotional face to face with Wenger but I heard reports the other day that Wenger wasn't even in the country. Hmm, I don't know what to believe.

I don't want him to go. He's one of the most outstanding players on the planet. BUT...if it really is his wish to leave then I will only be able to wish him well at Barca and thank him for being an incredible servant to the club.

That said Barca can fuck off if they think they're getting him for 35 million. They can have him for 35 million plus Yaya Toure AND Henry. :flame:

I reckon Arsenal have too many players like Toure. Maybe Keita would be a good swap player, but he is 30 years old.

^^^fair points, Gagh, but I can still dream. :)

I think Yaya is exactly the player we need to bolster our back line and Defensive Midfield positions. Diaby and Denilson are both shit and Song needs cover.

The Gaurdian is reporting the same story which does not bode well. This is interesting though:

Barcelona hope to secure the player for around £30m, and could offer to include the unsettled Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Touré or even the Sweden forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic as part of the deal, though there is no guarantee that the Londoners would accept either player. They will seek nearer £40m for their captain, a demand that will prompt what is likely to prove a protracted and fractious period of negotiations, with Wenger having gone on record towards the end of last season that he was under "no financial pressure" to sell.

Ibra? LOL. If there is even the tiniest piece of truth to that it just goes to further reinforce what a farce the transfer market is these days. After doing a deal with Milan where they shelled out 40m + Eto'o they are now going to part exchange him for cesc + cash?

Fuck me sideways. There can be NO truth that surely.

I doubt it. Barca got Ibrahimovic for 46 million Euros, plus Eto'o. About 90 million Euros or so, in other words.

New Arsenal shirt for the upcoming season has been revealed.

Barca signed David Villa today for £35m. Paves the way for Henry's exit.

Go back to Arsenal, dammit.

....the New World welcomes you, Thierry Henry! ;)

if i was man utd id snatch henry on the cheap, and flog owen...

If he's going on the cheap then Arsenal should definitely take him back. I wouldn't want him as part of a part exchange deal unless it included Yaya and a massive amount of cash though.

Barcelona are simply being insulting if the 30 million pound bid is what they expect to pay for Fabregas. Picking up Villa for 35 million who is 29 who is at his peak now and will soon start to decline means Fabregas at 23 who hasn't even peaked yet and is one of the planets best prospects means 50 million is the bare minimum IMO.

In other transfer news I heard rumors that we tried and failed to sign Reina from Liverpool for 14 million. If Wenger is serious about spending that sort of money on a GK then Buffon might not be a total lost cause.

If Fabregas goes and we bring in Chamakh, Gourcuff, Buffon, Henry, Yaya and another world class CB then we are well on our way to being an extreme force even without Cesc once again. The chances of this happening under Wenger are very..VERY...slight though. :phpneutral:

Another rumour in the press is Hugo Lloris, the French 'keeper being linked to Arsenal. He's much more of an Arsenal fit than either Reina or Buffon, and more likely to happen then them. He's a quality keeper.

As for Fabregas - it's still far from certain. He's a few years younger than Xavi and Iniesta, two of the very best in the world who have an almost symbiotic relationship on the pitch. How will he be shoehorned in there?

already brought back campbell now bring back henry, is this progress in arsenal fans eyes?

Arsenal cannot compete financially, arsene is finding it harder and harder to find gems in the transfer market, I stand by what I said to menty a year ago, arsenal are at least two years away from challenging for the title..
