So Fabregas wants out.

That's the point isn't it. I always figured that Xavi and Fabregas would form the midfield and that Iniesta would be pushed wide with Busquets or Keita sitting behind Xavi and Fabs. But they've just signed David Villa who you have to see being a starter along with Ibra and obviously Messi forming the front three so it means Fabregas is going to get bumped a lot from that setup. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

One thing I am sure of though is that I am sick and tired of Real and Barcelona and their shitty summer raids of the Prems best talent. It seems that tapping up is only illegal if you're not those two teams.

As for Lloris I would take him all day and personally drive Almunia to the airport. Excellent keeper and if we can pry him away (I think it will be difficult) he would be an outstanding keeper for us and I would be very happy with that part of the summer transfer news at least.

Prying players away from French teams isn't overly difficult, and more likely than players at Liverpool and Juve ;)

already brought back campbell now bring back henry, is this progress in arsenal fans eyes?

Arsenal cannot compete financially, arsene is finding it harder and harder to find gems in the transfer market, I stand by what I said to menty a year ago, arsenal are at least two years away from challenging for the title..

We are the most financially sound club in the Premiership if you look at self sustainability and not sugar daddy syndrome that has sweeped England in recent years.

Since 04 we have had a net spend of -23 million in the transfer market. Yes, that's a MINUS. It has been very frustrating not going in for Marquee players because we have been painfully exposed time and time again due to our lack of depth. But with or without Cesc going there is money to spend and there will be additions. Maybe I'm biased but I honestly don't think Arsenal are a million miles away from being a title challenging team again. I've heard people say that we need a complete rework of the squad and I don't believe a word of it. We need a good defensive coach though because we have been useless in that department.

You can easily go and spend 100+ million on players and achieve nothing (CITY) and it's not the only component of a successful team. But in Arsenals case we really do need reinforcements and we have the money to do it this year and the payments on the Emirates are getting smaller and smaller all the time so we're moving towards a period of prosperity on both fronts.

If Cesc goes though it's going to be a hammer blow. Our formation is designed around him and all our play goes through him. No player is bigger than the team but it's not going to be easy to recover a loss as big as Cesc.

Will we be a far improved team next season even if all the additions I pointed out come to fruition? I think there is a strong case we will be but there are only so many titles to win and there are so many factors to consider that it's hard to call.

I agree to a point, arsenal will never blow up like portsmouth, or financially stretched like united or liverpool, but arsenal also have to be more of an attractive prospect for a player, man city and chelsea can throw plenty of money at new signings in a way very few can compete, man utd have a natural pull as does liverpool, arsenal lack that only beacuse they lack a european dynasty, however whilst arsenal may not be a million miles from a title team, neither are city or united, and villa and spurs have certainly closed the gap on arsenal, if liverpool recover and everton get their act together, i believe arsenal if not strenghend correctly will end up slogging out 4th to 7th positions with the rest

Arsenal turn down Barca offer for Fabregas

Arsenal Football Club have today released the following statement about Cesc Fabregas:

"Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas is under contract with the Club until the summer of 2015. He is a highly-valued member of the team and part of our future plans.

"We have followed recent speculation linking Cesc with a move away from the Club but as there has never been any official approach for him, only two informal exchanges, in which we made it abundantly clear that we have no interest in transferring Cesc, we have refrained from publicly passing comment. However, yesterday evening we received an offer from Barcelona for Cesc and in response, we immediately and resolutely told them once again that we have no intention of selling our captain.

"To be clear, we will not make any kind of counterproposal or enter into any discussion. Barcelona have publicly stated that they will respect our position and we expect that they will keep their word."

The word on the street that I'm hearing is that they offered us 40 million Euros and that our negotiation point is 87 million Euros. In other words either Cesc stays put or Barca will be forced to offer a massive record breaking fee from him.

This is a massive up yours from AFC which I'm glad to see. No way are we going to bend over and be spanked by Barca for our captain.

I think he will still be a barca player come august.....

Only if Barca break the bank.

It's a fairly regulation move though, isn't it? If the player wants to go to Barcelona, which he quite clearly does, it may not be difficult to keep the player - but he probably won't play to his usual level until something happens.

Just look at Ronaldo. I know Fabregas doesn't have those levels of arrogance - far from it, but the situation is almost the same (with the exception that Fabregas knows what loyalty is - but he's still a human who wants to be somewhere else).

I do think Fabregas would perform to his absolute highest ability even if he doesn't get his move to Barca this year but it is going to throw up some challenges. Do you keep him as captain even after publicly expressing a wish to leave? A conflict of interest there. There will also be the uneasy situation of the small but vocal boo boys who will scrutinize his every move now and will make the whole situation even more difficult to bear.

Ultimately Fab said that he has left his future in Arsene's hands. That means that he knows full well that if Barca can't meet Arsenals valuation of him that he is going to stay. I doubt that he will turn in a formal transfer request, he has far too much respect for Wenger for that. He cites the guy as much of an influence on him as his own parents so there is a lot of loyalty there and Cesc is not the type to throw his dummy out of the pram.

With all that said the longer this drags on and with having to face the fact that he does want to move to Barca sooner rather than later it may be that the prudent move is we milk the shit out of Barca for 55-60 million and buy Gourcuff to replace him for his 22m release cause and use the rest of the money to strengthen further. Pick Joe Cole up on a free (if we can negotiate his wages down, still don't know where he will end up) and hit the ground running next season with or without Cesc.

You'll want him to stay for a few months, then you'll begin to realise it's better if he went. That's how it was with Ronaldo. He was more than welcome to fuck off for £80m. I reckon if Arsenal get offered anything around £40m they'll start listening.

We've been officially offered 34 million. I'm pretty sure we will hang on for closer to 50.

I guess the fact that Fabregas is still only 22 (seems amazing) will only serve to drive the price up.

If Cesc does go then it is ABSOLUTLEY IMPERATIVE that we sign Gourcuff.
