Big Dick McGee
If you don't know, now ya know
I watched the premiere episode of Nikita last night on the CW, since it got a "must-watch" and an "A" from Entertainment Weekly. I really had no interest in the show until I'd read the review, but I figured I'd give it a try. I never did watch the Peta Wilson series, although I always wanted to check it out.
First of all, the CW's version of "HD" blows. I felt like the whole episode was shot through a dirty screen door. My TV isn't crazy big, it's only 52", so as long as the HD is pretty decent, you don't get much pixellation or degradation. But this was awful, the people all looked washed out and the backgrounds were loaded with huge pixels. Maybe it was my local affiliate, but it def. wasn't my TV or DVR.
OK, that gripe aside, the show was pretty good. Certainly not worthy of the A that EW gave it, but I'd give it a B-. Solid, decent action scenes, and good setup and premise for future stories. I would also disagree with EW that Maggie Q is "sexier than Jennifer Garner"; Alias was a top-notch show for all but its final season, and Sydney Bristow was sex on wheels. Maggie Q is hot, but she ain't all that. She's waaay too skinny, and just doesn't exude sex appeal like Nikita should.
I won't give any spoilers, but the "twist" at the end was well-played, and sets the series up nicely for a long arc. I'll keep watching, and I hope it gets a little better each week.
Anyone else watch?
