We look to Trek to see how the issues we still face today got resolved in order for us to become space citizens. Dystopian Sci-Fi is a dime a dozen. Trek's Utopian ideal is one of Trek's defining attributes and has never been a detriment to the show. Utopia's need to be sustained and they are not taken for granted in Star Trek. Quite the contrary.IMO the idea of a perfect Utopian human society was a liability to Trek, not one of its better attributes
