Can I have Ops?

I WANT ONE!

That thing is HUUUUUUGE!!!

Awesomo powar!!

I can see why people think it's a fake, but if it is, then they deserve plaudits for that too. It's either a very impressive fake, or a very impressive real bit of tech.

I can see practical applications in the business world. They can be inlaid into conference tables and used as a presentation/conferencing/recording-scheduling tool.

The cooler, richer corporations would also add a motorized lift to raise and rotate it.

There are a number of things they must have cracked to get this right.

1. The resolution looks impressive, they must have converted some of the output of the phone to a vectored format to make it work
2. The large amount of conductive material, based on a grid system similar to the iphone must have set them back a bit. I am also unsure who would supply them with such a large screen
3. Jailbreaking an iphone, obviously this is easy, but it is interesting that they run it through an app. Why would they fake running it through an app?

The timing of a "video played with choreographed moves" would have to be excrucitatingly timed. Their movements are too "lazy" for that to be timed that well.

Believe it or not, we have investigated this for a particular project, and I know a little bit about the technical barriers. It is, like others have said, a VERY good fake - or a genuine breakthrough.

I suspect they are keeping their names secret due to the "jailbreak" element. They may also already have some jobs they wished to protect.

Similar to the Microsoft Surface, though, isn't it? Only running through an iPhone instead of whatever OS the Surface uses.

I have to call fake on this as awesome as it is. The guy hits the sleep button at the same time as he hits the app and it's impossible to bypass the lockscreen as well which seems to happen in this video.

Still fucking brilliant fake though and if it is real then I don't mind being proved wrong but the inner skeptic prevails for now.

I hope it isn't fake, I have a Client who is interested...

I tested the sleep thing - and why does that matter?

1. If he needed to disconnect the iphone, why didn't he just have the lead going nowhere? Easier to fake than a strong pinky finger
2. I just tested that with my pinky - it's a real trick to do
3. Why risk it all with a one take video? Why don't you edit it together in some way?

The one thing that is screaming at me is the money that the table will have cost. If you can afford about 1.5 metres x 1 metre of conductive material - why can't you afford a website and a bit more money on the video?

Similar to the Microsoft Surface, though, isn't it? Only running through an iPhone instead of whatever OS the Surface uses.

Yes, but that is essentially a large computer with touch screen and a whole host of dedicated software. This opens up a new world of stuff.

I have yet to see an app work on it though, just pictures and music would be impressive enough.

For my major project at uni I had to fake using a computer interface, so I know it's possible to get quite convincing results after a bit of rehearsing.

I animated the interface in After Effects, accounting in the animation for a bit of that dithering behaviour we all make when using computers, then filmed myself appearing to use it. People watching the video assumed I was using a real touch screen interface, because they never saw the takes where I fucked it up and forgot what order I was supposed to be "pressing" the screen, or where I sneezed and lost my timing.

There's no telling how many times they ran through this "nonchalant" behaviour before they got it right.

I am in real trouble if it is fake.

FUCK :sarek:

It reminds me of that meme where people do something like throw a ball into a basketball hoop by bouncing it off two walls while blindfolded, which looks incredible until you find out they filmed it 50 times before, by sheer statistical probability, they finally got it to go in.

I feel a "Last of the Summer Wine in the Ad World" style farce coming on. :P

You could throw HILARIOUS dinner parties!
