What does that have to do with anything? Plus, that's exactly what Jesus was saying NOT not to do in those verses. Sausageman claimed that Matthew 6:5-8 shows that Christians shouldn't go to any sort of church or congregation. I showed him by using the context of the previous verses that that wasn't what was being said at all. The point Jesus was making was that you shouldn't worship with the intent of showing off and being admired by other people. Not that you shouldn't gather in groups to worship.

And how do you figure? The entire section was about hypocrisy and making a showy display of charity and worship. There's really nothing there to indicate that Jesus was against people gathering together in groups or congregations to worship. Especially in light of Hebrews 9:24, 25:

"24 And let us consider one another to incite to love and fine works, 25 not forsaking the gathering of ourselves together, as some have the custom, but encouraging one another, and all the more so as YOU behold the day drawing near."

What does a belief in God have to do with being a dick? Where in the Bible does it say Thou shall not be an asshole for any reason ever. Even a horribly awesome serial rape killer could believe in the existence of god and just not give a rats ass about the popular rules that come with their religion.

You make it seem like most religious people are assholes and most atheist liberal homosexuals are kind generous caring ethical individuals. Face it, man, everyone is an asshole. Everyone.

I'd also say many people who say they believe in God (especily the ones you are talking about) do so out of habit and conditioning, but are actually pretty non-religious and rarely think about the topic.
