This thread is a bit of a downer, so bail out now while you have chance.
In a few weeks I will have had my job for seven years.
In that time my workload has gone up and up as the service has expanded, up to the point where my work was so overwhelming they actually hired someone to help me.
This person turned into a good and loyal friend, makes work a pleasure to come to with plenty of laughs throughout the day.
He told me yesterday he is applying for another job in the service on a higher grade, and I think he stands a very good chance of getting it.
In this current economic climate any job that goes in our service does not get replaced.
I know I should be happy for my friend, but all I can think of at the moment is that I will not only not get any more help with my work, I will have to take on his work too, and come in every day to an empty office.
Plus once again for the umpteenth time in the last seven years someone who started on a lower grade than me bypasses my grade entirely and gets a higher paid job after serving only a fraction of the time I have put in.
I’m the sole provider for my family, he has a wife and daughter that both work.
Extra money just always seems to go to those who already have loads, where those who need it struggle with rising bills and frozen pay rises.
I know I am selfish, but damnit, when is it going to be my turn?
