I never bloody well seem to either. Except for the odd full moon, everytime something exciting's going on, we have cloud cover... WTF.

Guess why we dont have an Observatory up here....

I saw a couple of meteorites last time the Perseids came round, but other than that I don't tend to be very lucky. Tbh, I didn't even bother going out last night to look because I doubt very much I'd be able to see the Lights this far south.

I looked at the full moon last night, and Venus, Jupiter and Orion. Venus and Jupiter have been hanging out together.

This story is science in quotation marks, as Japan's "research" is thwarted by activists. Out of what they hoped would be 900, they only managed to slaughter 267 whales, thanks to some very ballsy tactics by the anti-whaling groups.

I'm reminded of that one X-Files movie, where the author claims to have seen a UFO, but the MIB people come and say things are often mistaken for "the planet Venus".

Living in a city like I do, one tends to not see much of anything either.

in the science of human evolution or palaeoanthropology, we presently don't have a generally agreed, biological definition for our own species (Homo sapiens), believe it or not.

that's for sure. you should hear them [paleoanthropologists] going at it hammer and tongs. not pretty.

I think that statement of theirs would be a surprise to a lot of people. I think most people would assume we did in fact "have a generally agreed, biological definition for our own species".

It was really a surprise when I studied biology in college and I found out how vague the definition of a species can be sometimes.

I guess it makes sense in hindsight, given how evolution works, but it still rocked my little mind.

Tonight I stepped out of the office and the first thing I saw was Venus and Jupiter. Impressive! Unless it's Orion or the big dipper, I pretty much never know what I'm looking at in the sky, so to look up and immediately know that I'm looking at two other planets was really cool.
