R.I.P. Tony Scott

Hambil

I AM A GOLDEN GOD
Director of Top Gun, Days of Thunder, Crimson Tide and many others. As well as a creative force behind Numb3rs and The Good Wife.

I wish you could have asked for and found help, but I hope you got the peace you needed.

I was going to bump the "make up more lies about Tom Cruise" thread and blame him but I thought it would be in poor taste (so I'll just post the details here instead.)

It's a sad story!

That was my first assumption too. Even so it's sad that he decided to go like that. There have got to be better ways.

Incidentally I'm watching Mythbusters and they're doing an item about people jumping off of bridges, which I'm finding myself morbidly curious about. At least it's a quick way to go.

I'd rather drown than die in a fire but neither one sounds too pleasant. I think if I ever find out I'm terminal, I'm getting shit faced in my running car while I pump carbon monoxide in through a hose. Hopefully in the winter time so I don't end up a pile of rotting ooze before someone finds me. Not for me since I'll be dead and I won't care but for the poor person that finds me.

I'm not morbid at all.

Wow, I didn't even know he was ill. The Good Wife is one of the best dramas on the TV, IMO!

He should have jumped off that bridge in slow-motion while a big fucking explosion went off behind him.

That would have been a great suicide.

TMZ are not reporting that he DIDN'T have inoperable brain cancer (or any kind of cancer.) A few hours after they reported that he did. So who fucking knows.

Even if he had cancer he still robbed his wife and kids of more time with him.

No-one wants to die slowly and in pain, but every family that looses someone they loved wishes they could have had more time with them.

If you have no-one and you kill yourself, fair enough, if you have a loving family and you kill yourself its pretty damn selfish.

End your pain by giving it to everyone else?

Plus I am kind of annoyed that some people are dancing around the fact that he killed himself (mainly on other boards) getting overly PC about even the word "commit" in suicide.

Because apparently saying that someone killed themselves could be upsetting to that persons family.

Although I would wager probably not as upsetting as the person they care about the most just going out at midnight one day and hurling themselves off a high bridge.

Yeah, I kind of doubt they're browsing discussion boards right now.

I can see your point about robbing the family of time but at the same time, no one should have to watch a loved one suffer like that. The old trope about 'you wouldn't let a family pet suffer like that, would you?' is true and I think assisted suicide should be legalized so everyone has a chance to say goodbye.

Well now his family is saying he did not have cancer or any other desease, so I guess he is just a selfish twat who thought dying when he wanted to was more important than staying with his family.

I am sorry, but the more I think about this the more angry I get at him.

He was a millionair hollywood director with film star friends, a loving wife, and two small kids, most of us will never have the life he had, and he just threw it all away, and made sure some other poor sod would have to fish his body out of the water.

Apparently if he had jumped 5 seconds later he would have landed on a ship with loads of people stood on deck, instead of just landing very near it.

Chances are he would have taken out someone else then.

Having money and fame doesn't mean you are immune to mental problems.

true, but if you're a multimillionaire, whatever's making you depressed is likely fixable. Unless he was actually psychotic or losing his mind which would explain it.

IF he was teminally ill, as long as euthanasia remains illegal, many see suicide as the only way out. It's not selfish. If he could have chosen to die a dignified and peaceful death he would have no doubt opted for that, but 'the law' says we aren't allowed to. they forced him a choice between an agonising drawn out death , or a violent quick one.

blame the religious redneck brigade

I don't know why anyone who doesn't know the man would be angry at him, especially when no one knows what was wrong with him. The media doesn't know anything more than the basic facts, everything else is speculation.
