My car is worth $4500. I found out today that it needs $3000 worth of work. It has 160,000 miles on it.

If I put $3000 dollars into it I'll have a $7500 car worth $4500. With 160k miles on it.

Unfortunately for me I trust the mechanic who did the diagnosis so I'm pretty sure he's right.
