Star Trek Discovery

There weren’t any cameras around so Kor couldn’t do a dramatic buildup.

I thought it was a good episode anyway. The execution of the plan to find out the cloaking frequency was pretty tense and they’ve gone some way to killing off the spore drive. I wonder if Discovery’s gone to the mirror universe, or somewhere new.
 
I liked how the beacons they were stealthily putting aboard the Klingon ships were covered with bright flashing lights and made constant beeping noises.
 
Tyler definitely seems to think he’s human, especially since all his flashbacks show him as one. It’ll be a shame if he changes back and we lose the character. I wonder how they’ll explain it. Genetic modification?
 
I liked this one a lot. Lots of action, and suspense! I wasn't aware of the Tyler theory until last week, I guess (whenever it was mentioned in this thread and I asked Wacky in the chat). Anyway, now it makes sense that maybe the lady Klingon (I still can't remember her name) did something to him and that he was in on it, but he can't remember. Him not remembering is most likely part of the plan, so that he can act as a human convincingly.
 
I think he volunteered to have the real Tyler's memories implanted in his head or something. Remember even in the original series there was a Klingon who was altered to appear humans (in The Trouble With Tribbles) though he knew his real identity.
 
In all I didn't think it was too bad. However, I don't really see it as a Star Trek series. It sure didn't feel like one, and it has removed some of the core themes that Roddenberry insisted on (i.e. little to no conflict between senior staff, etc). The Klingons didn't feel right, and they could have dropped them speaking in Klingon with captions fairly quickly. The cursing and the gore are obviously huge departures too.

In all, I feel they are a little thin on the ground with core characters. I don't really feel much for them main crew (though Jason Isaacs is a fine actor - I just don't know what Lorca stands for except being a hard-arse as yet). In all, I chose chose to think of it as an adult, action sci-fi series as it wore on, and that worked for me.

I would still love to see another Trek series continuing the timeline we all know, though...
 
Remember how Wesley literally evolved to a higher plane of existence...then went back to Starfleet Academy for some reason.
 
And was miserable there until some Indians came along and talked him into running away with them or something (about a third of season 7 is unwatchable)
 
But I mean in Nemesis he was back in Starfleet somehow...unless they just let him wear the uniform at the wedding (maybe he showed up naked.)
