Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love: Wasn't stunned by Aaron Rodgers' COVID-19 diagnosis

After two of the Green Bay Packers three quarterbacks tested positive for COVID-19 this week, Jordan Love feared he would be next. But Love has tested negative each of the past three days and on Friday said, "I'm confident that I'm good right now." Love is scheduled to make his first NFL start Sunday at the Kansas City Chiefs, while starter Aaron Rodgers and third-stringer Kurt Benkert remain on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Love spoke Friday for the first time since Rodgers' diagnosis, wearing a mask at the Lambeau Field podium as part of what he said were extra precautions this week. Love told reporters that he is fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers says he didn't lie, details decision to not get vaccinated

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said he did not lie when discussing his vaccination status, has followed almost all protocols for unvaccinated players and explained his reasoning for not getting one of the traditional COVID-19 vaccines before this season. Rodgers tested positive for COVID on Wednesday, is considered unvaccinated by the NFL and NFL Players Association and is in a 10-day minimum quarantine that will keep him out of the Green Bay Packers game Sunday at the Kansas City Chiefs. When asked in August whether he was vaccinated, Rodgers said, "Yeah, I've been immunized." Rodgers, 37, said that because of his allergy, the only option for one of the approved vaccines was the Johnson & Johnson shot, which he said he was not comfortable taking because of reports of side effects.

Buffalo Bills add backup QB Mitchell Trubisky to COVID-19 list, elevate Davis Webb from practice squad

The Buffalo Bills added quarterback Mitchell Trubisky to the league's reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday, with the backup becoming the third Bills player to join the list this week. Two practice squad players, quarterback Jahe Fromm and wide receiver Tanner Gentry were placed on the COVID-19 list Tuesday, becoming the first players the Bills had placed on the list this regular season. Both were still on the list Saturday. Two of the team's four quarterbacks are now unavailable. Practice squad quarterback Davis Webb was elevated to the active roster to back up Josh Allen for Sunday's game at the Jacksonville Jaguars, with Buffalo's decision to keep two quarterbacks on the practice squad paying off. Trubisky has seen limited action this season, appearing in only three games in place of Allen when the game has been out of reach or for kneel-downs. The No. 2 overall pick by the Chicago Bears in the 2017 NFL draft signed a one-year, $2.5 million deal with the Bills this offseason.

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, local health care provider end partnership amid COVID-19 vaccination controversy

One day after Aaron Rodgers explained why he was unvaccinated and how he tried to gain fully vaccinated status because he received an alternate treatment in an attempt to give himself immunity from COVID-19, a Wisconsin-based health care organization announced the end of its partnership with the Green Bay Packers quarterback. Rodgers tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday and will miss Sunday's game at the Kansa City Chiefs. On Friday, during a 46-minute appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," Rodgers said that an allergy to mRNA vaccines prevented him from getting two of the three approved vaccines and that he did not feel comfortable getting the other because of reactions that he had heard about. The use of that vaccine was briefly suspended earlier this year.

Executives from other NFL teams question uneven COVID-19 protocol standards for Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers

Multiple coaches and front-office executives have complained that their teams apparently were held to different COVID-19 protocol standards over the summer than the Green Bay Packers. While the NFL instructed teams that unvaccinated players were required to wear masks along the sideline during preseason games, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers did not. One team executive said he received a memo from the NFL about the COVID-19 protocols that read, in part: "Any such individual with bench area access who is not fully vaccinated except for active players shall be required to wear masks at all times. Unvaccinated inactive players must also wear masks." Rodgers and the Packers are facing fines but no suspensions for potential protocol violations, according to a source.

Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith placed on COVID-19 list

The Minnesota Vikings will be without safety Harrison Smith on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens after the Pro Bowler was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Smith is the third Vikings player put on the reserve/COVID-19 list since Thursday. He joins center Garrett Bradbury, who tested positive and is vaccinated, and practice squad guard Dakota Dozier. The Vikings conducted extra COVID-19 tests Sunday morning, a source said, after the cases that popped up this week. If positive, Smith will miss at least 10 days, which would force him to also miss next Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Source: Philadelphia 76ers' Joel Embiid tests positive for COVID-19, will miss several games

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid returned a positive test for COVID-19 on Monday morning, a source told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Embiid will miss Monday's game against New York Knicks, and he will sit for at least 10 days, per the NBA's health and safety protocols. That would mean that Embiid would miss at least five games and would potentially be able to return sometime late next week, while Philadelphia is in the middle of a six-game road trip, primarily on the West Coast. Embiid, who is averaging 21.4 points, 9.4 rebounds and a career-high 4.0 assists in nine games for the East-leading 76ers this season, was originally scheduled to take Monday night's game off against the Knicks for rest, even before entering the protocols.

NBA: No pay if unvaccinated players can't play

Players who are forced to miss games due to the executive orders governing vaccination requirements in both New York and San Francisco will not be paid for any games they miss. The NBA and the National Basketball Players Association are finalizing an agreement over the health and safety protocols for this season, as ESPN reported Tuesday night when the league sent the protocols to teams.

Green Bay Packers activate QB Aaron Rodgers off reserve/COVID-19 list

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been activated off the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday and is able to play in Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks. Rodgers remained asymptomatic from COVID-19 and was activated from the list after meeting the NFL/NFLPA return-to-play protocols. Rodgers concluded his 10-day quarantine required for unvaccinated players who test positive for the virus. Rodgers was not allowed back in the team facility until Saturday but indicated he had been working out on his own. During his weekly appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," he said Tuesday that he would ramp up his conditioning on his own as the week went on and said he believed there was only a "small possibility" that he would not play Sunday.

Buffalo Bills' offensive line takes hit as Spencer Brown put on reserve/COVID-19 list

The Buffalo Bills' offense will likely be without a key player for Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts, as starting rookie right tackle Spencer Brown was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday and is expected to miss the game. Brown missed two games coming off the team's bye because of a back injury but returned against the The New York Jets last week and helped the offense put up a season-best performance, totaling season highs in points (45) and yards (489). Without Brown -- who has started four games this season -- the right side of the line will have to adjust yet again. Right guard Darryl Williams could move to the third-round pick's spot at right tackle if needed. Cody Ford, a 2019 second-round pick, started at right guard in the 9-6 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars and underperformed. Ryan Bates is another candidate at guard. Since Nov. 2, the Bills have placed six players on the reserve/COVID-19 list. There has been at least one Bills player on the list every day during that stretch.
