Source: 49ers' Nick Bosa is highest-paid defensive player

The news that the San Francisco 49ers have been waiting to hear for 43 days traveled quick Wednesday afternoon, most notably through the joyous screams echoing throughout the locker room from linebacker Fred Warner: Defensive end Nick Bosa is back. The Niners and Bosa have agreed to a five-year, $170 million extension that will make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Wednesday. The extension includes $122.5 million guaranteed, the source told ESPN. Beyond the financials, the deal's timing also means there's a realistic chance Bosa will be in his traditional red No. 97 jersey on Sunday in Pittsburgh. While Shanahan said he needs to talk to Bosa and see where he is health-wise, one thing the Niners have never questioned is whether Bosa, who has been training at his home in Fort Lauderdale, would stay in shape during his holdout.

Sources: Jets Aaron Rodgers has torn Achilles tendon
Rodgers, 39, a four-time MVP, went down on the Jets' fourth snap of the game, when he tried to spin out of a sack by defensive end Leonard Floyd. His left foot appeared to get caught in the turf and his body twisted.

Jets' Aaron Rodgers has torn Achilles tendon, ending his season

After losing quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a season-ending Achilles tear, confirmed Tuesday by an MRI, New York Jets coach Robert Saleh gave Zach Wilson a strong endorsement as the new starter and scoffed at those who believe their playoff hopes are ruined. "I don't know why people are trying to put an obituary under our team name," Saleh told reporters on a Zoom call. Rodgers, injured on the Jets' fourth snap of the new season, was placed on injured reserve and will have surgery to repair his Achilles. Saleh declined to reveal a timetable, but indicated their hope is that the four-time MVP -- the centerpiece to their blockbuster offseason -- will stay with the team during his rehab.

Jets QB Aaron Rodgers 'heartbroken' in wake of Achilles tear

New York Jetss quarterback Aaron Rodgers, in his first public comments since his season-ending Achilles injury, said he is down, but apparently not out. Before the injury, Rodgers had mentioned on numerous occasions that his goal was to play multiple years with the Jets. He is signed through 2025 and due to receive $38 million in guarantees in 2024. Meanwhile, the Jets are preparing for the Dallas Cowboys (1-0) with Zach Wilson as their starter and Tim Boyle as the backup. Saleh said the team doesn't feel a sense of urgency to add another quarterback even though Wilson and Boyle are the only two in the building. Boyle will be brought up from the practice squad for Sunday's game on the road. For now, Wilson won't have Rodgers around to tutor him. The Jets are trying to rally around the quarterback who was benched twice last season and demoted to third string late in the year.

Panthers' Bryce Young to miss 1-2 weeks; Andy Dalton starting
The top pick of the 2023 NFL draft will be replaced by veteran Andy Dalton, starting with Sunday's game at Seattle. Dalton is 1-1 against the Seahawks in Seattle, with his only two starts coming for the Cincinnati in 2011 and 2019. But he understands Seattle's reputation for having one of the loudest stadiums in the NFL.
