Gene Hackman died

Terrible , horrible & very sad news.

Gene Hackman was an AWESOME EXCELLENT actor.

Gene Hackman TOTALLY hit a Grand Slam WAY out of the park as Lex Luthor.

He played Lex Luthor BRILLIANTLY and brought a PERFECT balance between deadly seriousness & comic humor to the Lex Luthor character.

But he was great in all his roles.

May Gene Hackman & his wife & dog rest in peace.

Poseidon Adventure, French Connection, Postcards From The Edge, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Birdcage, Young Frankenstein, all the Superman's...

I think some of my favorite films of his are the ones he'd call "money roles" lol.

Wow he really did retire in 2004, no credits after that...

We're going to be reading about thid death for the forseeable future, so strap yourselves in... :(

She was found near a fan heater that had fallen down, he was found in bed, I recon the dog had done a wee on the floor, the fan heater fell down into the wee and electrocuted her and the dog, then Gene had a heart attack.

Because they weren't found for two weeks the wee had long since evaporated.

They are ruling it suspicious right now because of how spread out the three deaths are, the fact that pills were found with his wife and the fact there is no evidence of CO inhalation and the door was left open and ajar.

You've done it again, Poirot!

Hantavirus for her and pulmonary issues combined with Alzheimer’s I believe for him. She died a week before him. We’ll likely never know if he was cognizant enough to know she had died. I’m guessing he probably was at some moments at least. I can only guess he felt helpless/bereft. Sad way to go.

Sadly I dont think he was. If it was anything like my grandmother when she started to seriously decline like that, he very likely didnt even leave the spot he was in till he died. With my grandmother, if we didnt feed her or take her to the bathroom or bed, she would never leave the spot she was sitting in for hours at a time. We finally needed to get her to a home because she needed near 24/7 supervision to do anything.

I don’t have any personal experience with someone with Alzheimer’s or dementia so I believe you! In a way…I hope he didn’t know. IDK, sad all the way around.
I’m feeling a little judgmental that his and her family (somebody!) didn’t figure out that there was a problem sooner but…it is what it is.
My 89 y/o mom is thankfully all there cognitively but lives by herself in a 5 bedroom, two story house and her physical health isn’t great. Limited mobility. Anyway, the whole situation is concerning and yet it’s not like we can boss her around. She’s very opinionated/doesn’t want outside help and none of us are in a position to go live with her. Sucks. But somebody is checking on her daily and we’d all freak out if we couldn’t reach her. Ugh!

My 99 year old Grandmother has dementia. She's not all there mentally. Her short-term memory is shot. She naps a lot, and her cognition continues from whatever she's dreaming, like if she dreams her dogs are missing, she goes looking for them even if they're right in front of her. Something they don't tell you is that if they get things like a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) it can mess with your body and make you even more agitated or react hostile. As was mentioned by Falcon, she doesn't take care of her own hygiene, so we're having someone come and take care of that. She won't eat if you're not there pretty much making her, because she'll say "I'm not hungry" and 9/10 whatever dinner is left for her winds up in the trash.

So yeah with advanced alzheimers, I could totally see how Hackman would either not be aware of his wife's passing, or not realize exactly what had happened. With his extensive acting career, for all we know he may have thought it was part of a role he was playing. There's no way to know, and sadly we never will.
