Things you love about Star Trek

"Balance of Terror" is on H&I right now, and I'm surprised how well it holds up. One of the best episodes ever, across the various series.

So, it wasn't bad. SNW as a whole isn't bad if you can overlook how they've shit all over certain parts of canon.
Canon schmanon. I'll take SNW any day over anything else they've managed to crap out since basically DS9.

With the above being said, I've actually been doing a run through of Enterprise lately, and it's not a terrible show. It mostly isn't good, but it's not Discovery level cringeworthy. I know, the bar is low.

I almost want to get streaming to see the "Strange New Worlds" take on "Balance of Terror."
This was interesting. Not sure it was necessary exactly, but it was a nice homage to the original without fucking shit up too much.

Oh, my dude, it seems that most or all of the first two seasons are free on YouTube for awhile, leading up to the third season here in a few weeks. Here ya go.

Enterprise was what happened when they followed the formula too closely... bland. The show had enormous potential, and that shined through several times. "Carbon Creek" for example. But the majority of the episodes were forgettable. It wasn't until the last season that they started taking chances; the "Mirror Darkly" episodes were the best example of that. By then it was too late.

SNW has that potential, and they gotten weird in a few places. I don't like how much they're emphasizing the coming shift into the Kirk era... too much Kirk in this show and it cuts into Pike's screen time. The heavy reliance on the Gorn bothers me, but it's coming off cool, so... I dunno... timey-wimey shit?

I've been watching ST since 1971 or 1972, so I'm a little bit of an asshole about canon, but I've learned that canon isn't/shouldn't be a hard metric.
