True story, and not a complete non-sequitur:
Back in the days when the Internet was young...and interractive chat was either on a "dial up" wildcat BBS's (you know...with several PHONE LINES, and if they were all in use you couldn't get in) and/or the big 3's "chat services" (AOL, Compuserve, Prodigy), I used to hang out, on line, with a group in a particular chat "channel". Yes, this was before even the IRC....
In any case, the people were geekier, and they paid by the minute or hour to chat so they were even more addicted that the present day crop. Every evening, hours were spent talking, flirting, virtual pool parties, lots of emotional content, etc.
And on Halloween, for three years straight, there was a party in upstate New York. A couple hosted most of the activities, a hotel was taken over, and chaos ensued. People came from England, Australia, all over the USA and Canada. The hotel PA system would have announcements like "Would...er...BR Bear please meet Turtle and Smoothie in the lounge". Much drunken screwing ensued. Coffee Shop waiters were harassed at 3:00 AM. The locals were worried...
This would not be QUITE the same, but I could see a TK get-together as an interesting exercise.
