NBA draft: 205 early-entry prospects declare for 2020
This number is down from the previous two years, when 233 (2019) and 236 (2018) early entrants declared, a sign that the uncertainty surrounding the pre-draft process caused by the coronavirus pandemic might have led players uncertain about their draft stock to err on the side of caution.

NBA eyeing Nov. 18 as new draft date, memo says

The NBA is targeting Nov. 18 as a new date for the 2020 draft, pending discussions with league owners and general managers in separate meetings on Thursday and Friday, according to a memo obtained by ESPN. The NBA and National Basketball Players Association negotiated what the memo called a "potential revised 2020 NBA Draft date" as a tentative replacement for Oct. 16. The delay would allow the league and union to negotiate amendments to the collective bargaining agreement and agree on 2020-21 salary cap and luxury tax thresholds. Free agency isn't mentioned in the memo, nor has a new date been negotiated with the NBPA, sources said. The start of free agency is expected to follow relatively soon after the draft. This would be the second delay of the draft, which was originally scheduled for June 25.

Minnesota Timberwolves take Georgia's Anthony Edwards with No. 1 pick in NBA draft

Five months later than originally scheduled, the Minnesota Timberwolves selected Anthony Edwards with the first pick of the 2020 NBA draft Wednesday. The Golden State Warriors took center James Wiseman with the No. 2 pick, and guard LaMelo Ball followed as the third pick to the Charlotte Hornets. Edwards, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound guard from Atlanta who spent his lone college season at Georgia, joins a young Timberwolves core led by star center Karl-Anthony Towns and point guard D'Angelo Russell. Edwards led all Division I freshmen with 19.1 points per game last season and was the SEC Freshman of the Year. Edwards, Wiseman and Ball were each, at different times, projected to be the top pick in the draft. Edwards, however, was the best positional fit for Minnesota -- Wiseman shares the same position as Towns, and Ball shares the same position as Russell -- and emerged as the likely top pick in the days leading up to Wednesday's draft.
