Well, she made it past 72 hours. She made it 23 days. Took her off of life support and she actually starting getting better. Started going to rehab things were going good. But it was just a calm before the storm. For the past 3 days she was in and out of conciousness refusing to eat and refusing anything other than morphine forthe pain; then last night slipped into a coma. She passed on today at 7:00 this evening. So thanks for all of those who PM'd me and for the support. I'm happy that she is out of pain. But that doesn't mean I don't hurt like a bitch.
I drove from NY to Kansas in about 16 hours when my grandmother went on final morphine drip. We buried her just after Thanksgiving day 2004, and the wierd side note is that her death signalled the start of a pretty major collapse in the structure of my life. Job security, marriage, all of it gone when I returned to New York. It just took a while to die. It's been a very strange 16 months...
