A new continuing story

HEAR HEAR! I SECOND THAT HEARTILY!!

There was nothing she could do. She could escape from many tight spots using her agility, her strength...but against Mighty Mike? When he was angry? She could not do anything. Her neck could snap if she tried to move too much. She had never seen him like this, never. He'd never laid a hand on her before. She almost felt like she was about to start crying. She replaced it with a steely resolve. She had to get through to him.

"Mike," she said. It was a struggle with his massive hand around her throat, of course. "Mike, please, just think about this, rationally."

"I lover her so much! Rachel, she was everything to me. You couldn't possibly understand. I have to make them pay. I can't stop making them pay."

"We need infromation...to help make them pay."

"To help make them pay?"

"Yes! He, could you maybe loosen up a bit?"

"Oh...okay." He let her go and she landed on her feet.

"We need to find out why they killed her, who's orders they were operating on."

"I don't understand," said Mike. He certainly looked puzzled.

"Isn't any more of your memory back yet?"

"All I remember is Rachel and how badly I want to avenge her death," said Mike. He noticed one of the downed agends stirring. He calmly jumped over to him, snapped his neck, then jumped back to Ashely. "Sorry," he said, meekly.

"Damn it, Elijah, you're always doing this!" said Ashley. "Using untested technology...I know he's hurt too, but his memory repairing nanos obviously aren't working. We need to get back to base."

"Who do they work for, these agents?" asked Mike. "Surely that's who ordered Rachel's death...and maybe your brother's."

"You killed my brother," said Ashley, automatically, though she didn't quite believe it herself anymore. "And the agents have many bosses. They are loyal to a secret cabal consisting of many of the world's most powerful people."

"Is the president one of them?"

"Pfft, he's got no power. I'm talking business men, media tycoons...Hollywood stars."

"Hollywood stars?"

"Who has more influence than them? Most of the top actors working today got there becaue they had the agents watching out for them."

"Killing for them?"

"Killing hookers they impregnated...stuff like that."

"If we know this, why don't we just kill them all?"

"Because we're heroes, Mike. We don't do that."

"I'd do it," he said.

"That's worrying," she said. "You never kill anyone."

"I killed eight people today and one robot. Two are alive...that one's bleeding to death. That one will live." Mike picked up the living agent under his arm. "We'lll take him back to base. Get information. Torture him if we have to."

Suddenly a transmission came through to Ashley. It was Elijah.

"THEY'RE HERE, THEY HAVE ME....OH GOD, HURRY, HURRY...GAHAHAHAHA!"

"I heard that," said Mike.

"You have super hearing," said Ashley, getting tired of explaining things to him. "Come on."

He took Ashley under his other arm.

"I'll fly," he said.

Of course he didn't fly, he jumped, but it was one of his best jumps yet, Ashley thought. It almost was like flying. She felt scared by how good his powers were getting. She wasn't sure why she was scared and she didn't think it was because of what he may have done to James. There was a lot more going on here. How could the agents have possible got into their base?

They landed right in front of the gay bar.

"Are you just going to walk in with him under your arm?" Ashley asked Mike, regarding the agent under his arm.

"The guys will think I'm taking him to the back to give him a good seeing to," said Mike and he walked in. She followed. But the bar was empty.

"Could the agents have run the homos out of here?" asked Mike.

"Maybe it was Elijah," said Ashley. "He has a lot of security protocols, I think one automatically clears the bar in the event of attack...by pumping in a gas which compels people to leave."

"How clever," said Mike, dryly, as they made their way to the back.

"He has cameras in here, he watches on his monitors with everything else...he'd be able to spot an agent in here and get everyone out."

"What's his power, Elijah?" asked Mike.

"He has a...super brain," said Ashley. "Can take in information, analyse it, multi-task to an extraordinary degree...it's more impressive than I'm making it sound."

They reached the door to the teleporter...it was smashed open. "Oh shit," said Mike.

"That shouldn't be possible!" said Ashley. "It looks like a normal door but it's actually so strong that even you would struggle to smash it open."

They ran inside...just in time to see a robot materialise in the room.

"That's one of Elijah's security bots!" said Ashley.

"KILL, KILL," said the security bot, lunging at Ashley quickly. Mike shattered it with a punch.

"Stupid robots," he said. He threw the agent under his arm to the ground. "I don't think he's going anywhere, come on, let's teleport."

"COMPUTER, activate teleportation, authorisaton ASHLEY OMEGA TANGO DELTA HITLER," said Ashley. Nothing happened.

"Well now what?" said Mike.

"We need to get to him!" said Ashley.

"Isn't there another way out? He'll be trapped."

"There's a secondary teleporter underneath the base, completely independant to this one...but it's one way. It gets you out but not in."

"So Elijah might have used it."

"But we need to get down there to make sure."

"Remember when I said I could punch my way up to the surface from down there? Think it would work the other way around?" asked Mike.

"Mike, no, you can't..."

But Mike started to spin around on the spot.

"What are you doing!?" asked Ashley.

"Odd," said Mike. "I just remembered how to do this..." He jumped up then smashed down through the floor with both feet, starting to spin as he hit...starting to drill through the ground.

"You've never done that before," said Ashley. She was scared and concerned. Mike was out of control. He was drilling through concrete with his body. Now he had grabbed her without asking and diving down the hole he'd created. They landed in base. It was empty. Monitors were smashed.

"Oh God," said Ashley.

"Damn, I forgot that Agent," said Mike, looking up through the hole. He'd left the agent on the floor. "Oh well, I think he was nearly dead anyway."

"Mike, Elijah's gone, and it looks like they got him," she said.

"Yeah," said Mike, no expression. "We'll kill them."

"WHAT WILL THAT SOLVE?" she screamed. She'd had enough.

"Who cares, just...just kill them," said Mike. Then he held his head in pain.

"We need Elijah to fix your brain," said Ashley, trying to be calm.

"Just...hurts so much..." he said. He shut his eyes. He imagined Rachel. He imagined her in pain. And when he opened his eyes she was standing right in front of him. Her clothes were torn. She had cuts down her body.

"Mike, thank God you're alright!" she shouted, running to him.

"You're alive!" he said, confused, but happy, so happy. "But Elijah said..."

"They fed him false information," said Rachel.

"Then...the agents didn't try to kill you?" he asked. Something in the cuts, the scars on her beautiful body looked familiar to him.

"Mike, who are you talking to?" asked Ashley. Mike was standing in front of her talking to himself, but he sounded like he was talking to someone else. In fact he looked like he was hugging someone.

"SHE DID!" said Rachel, pointing at Ashley. Then it hit Mike. The slashes all over Rachel's body exactly matched Ashley's attack patterns.

"You...it was you all along!" said Mike, who found himself automatically believing what Rachel had said. "You lied to me from the start!"

"What the hell are you talking about?" asked a thoroughly confused Ashley. Then Mike lunged for her. She jumped back and instinctively drew her blades.

"You cut her up!" said Mike. "But she's alive and she's going to watch as I kill you!"

"Yes, kill her, KILL HER FOR ME," said Rachel, smiling.

"Who? There's no one there!"

"RRRARGH!" Mike charged. She had no choice but to slash at him. But he felt no pain. He hit her in the face with a mighty punch. Ashley was knocked backwards into the wall. Mike look at her with disgust. "Now you die," he said.

She could tell he was serious. She would have been utterly confused by this turn of events, except she had no time to be. She would be dead in moments if she didn't act. She threw one of her blades right at his neck. She knew it wouldn't kill him, but it might give her time. He absorbed it and ran at her. At least she was back to her feet now. He was charging. At the last possible moment she flipped over him. He crashed into the wall. She landed on her feet, prepared to stirke...then against her better judgement she spke.

"Can we talk about this?" she said.

"Don't talk, just kill, KILL!" said Rachel. Was there something wrong about this, Mike wondered for a moment? He couldn't remember a lot about Rachle other than his burning love for her...but had she been this violent? Didn't she like flowers? Why was he thinking about flowers all of a sudden? He was supposed to be killing.

"Mike, please, it's me," said Ashley. He looked at her. He felt loathing for what she'd done to Rachel...what Rachel said she'd done to her...but he felt something else. Lust. No, not just lust. Love. God, how could have be in love with Ashley when Rachel was his wife, his everything? It might no sense. It was like his memories were contradicting his emotions...or the other way around.

"KILL HER FUCKING GINGER ASS," shouted Rachel.

"Why am I thinking about flowers?" Mike spat out, restraining himself from killing Ashley, even though he really wanted to do it.

"Flowers...Rachel's power! She can make plants grow, she can control them!" Suddenly the image of Rachel making flowers grow out of her hand and handing them to him came into Mike's mind. He sank to the ground. His head hurt.

"Ashley...someone's fucked up my mind," he said.

I'm not gonna give you karma cause it'll be red, but I've given you green karma in my heart.

still awesome, i just checked and this story's still awesome.

must be on page one

"I know," she said, kindly. She walked towars him, slowly. He was still crying. She put her arm on him.

"No, don't touch me," he said.

"Mike..."

"I know, I know, we slept with each other 17 times, Rachel was cheating on my with Elijah...I can see her, you know," he said. Rachel was standing behind Ashley, scowling.

"The image could have been implanted in your mind," said Ashley.

"By your brother," said Mike, putting the pieces together now, perhaps.

"But why..."

"Could he have been suicidal? Could he have wanted me to kill him?"

"No!" said Ashley, but she was by no means sure.

"You did say he was a cunt," offered Mike and Ashley found herself laughing. "These aren't my real memories...I mean, my real memories are in there. They're coming back, maybe thanks to Elijah's nanos. But there's something over-writing them, false memories, visions of my dead wife, telling me to do things..."

"KILL HER, FUCKING RIP HER GUTS OUT AND EAT THEM, FUCK HER UP, PLAY TENNIS WITH HER TITS," said the twist spectre of Rachel.

"Yeah, stuff like that," said Mike.

"Come on, we need to keep moving," said Ashley. "Maybe if you don't have time to think you won't get any more crazy."

"Sounds like a plan," said Mike.

"The other teleporter is under here," said Ashley, opening a hatch. "The agents couldn't have used it to follow Elijah, it has a security system...with my retina scan it should take us where it took him." Mike followed her down a ladder to a small room with a teleporter. Ashley looked at a scanner and it was activated. They both climbed on...then they were somewhere else.

On top of a hill. It was windy and raining. Nothing could be seen.

"Where the fuck are we?" asked Mike.

"This is familiar," said Ashley, looking around. "I'm sure I've never been here, but it's familiar..."

"There's nobody even here!" said Mike.

"I AM, LOVER," said Rachel. Mike held his head in pain. Then something came to him. An image....and there was something flying towards them.

"A Flybot!" said Ashley, readying her blades. Mike could see someone now...James. It was James. That cunt. Mike was angry at him, so angry, ready to kill...and James was just laughing. But why? Oh fuck, James had been meeting with the agents. He was one of them...he was one of their bosses! Mike tried to speak, he had to say something...but Ashley was swinging her blades at the Flybot. It was thrashing at her...then it said something.

"MIKE: POWERBOMB," it said, right before Ashley cut it in two, then four on the way down, then eight on the ground. She turned to Mike.

All he could see now was the woman he killed his wife, the woman who had to die.

"We're...we're in Scotland," said Ashley. "Now I know, our parents, mine and James', they were born here..."

"YOU. MUST. DIE," said Mike. He knew his purpose now. Ashley backed away...and there was Elijah, running out of the wilderness.

"It was James!" he was saying. "He reprogrammed the teleporter to bring us here, all part of his plan, his endgame, he was trying to control Mike, harness his power!"

"SHUT UP," said Mike.

"Oh no!" said Elijah. "He's activated!"

"There was a Flybot..." started Ashley. Elijah looked terrified.

"There's no stopping him now," said Elijah. "That was the final stage...James' plan is complete. Mike will kill us both...unless we kill him first. You have to, Ashley. You have to kill Mike." And from the look in Mike's eyes, Ashley knew Elijah was telling the truth.

"I can't, he's Mike," said Ashley.

"He's going to kill you," said Elijah. "There's no time for sentiment."

Ashley kept backing away from Mike. He looked ready to attack...but was he holding back? "Why isn't he trying to kill you?" she asked, suddenly suspicious of even Elijah.

"James had plans for me," said Elijah.

"But..." And then Mike seemed to have made a decision...and he flew at Ashley. She jumped over him, but barely. He landed on his feet. She slashed one of her blades down his back, ducked a backfist, and cartwheeled away. Mike was superstrong, his body was capable of amazing things (she remembered the human drill)...but he could be hurt. Ashley was superhuman in her own way, in her agility, her precision...and her blades had been blessed by the Ninja King. Elijah was watching from the trees, his fingers arched like Mister Burns. What was going on with him?

"DIE, DIE, DIE..." repeated Mike, as if he was telling himself what he had to do. "DIE BITCH...DIE..." He just kept coming. She kept slashing at him and slashing at him, but he didn't care. He seemed to be trying to back her down the hill. That wasn't good. She needed the high ground. She had to backflip further down the hill herself to avoid a mighty punch. He lunged at her afterwards.

She stabbed him in the gut, thrusting up. He stopped. He just looked at her.

"MIKE, please," she said. "You have to remember who you are. My brother did something to you, but you can fight it. I know you can. I know because..." No, she couldn't say she loved him, because she didn't know if she did. She looked into his eyes. She could see Mike in there.

"He brainwashed me," he said. "James...I remember."

"Good, good."

"I HAVE TO KILL YOU."

"Not so good."

"ARRR," he swung again. She flipped again. He lunged again. She thrust again. He swung his arm down this time, right into the blade. It got stuck in his wrist. She tried to pull it out, but he flicked his wrist and it went flying. She was down to one blade. He was a bit slower, but still coming. She slashed at his chest and quickly moved. She had an idea. In any combat situation she was always calculating how to win. She knew how to kill Mike. She had to cut his chest wide open...then stab him through the heart.

"Ashley, are you okay?" she heard Elijah say. He was at the top of the hill looking down. Mike tried kick Ashley's blade out of her hand. She sidesteps and sweeped his other leg, putting him down.

"Peachy," she said. She stood over him for a moment...she had to drive the blade in further. No hestiation...and she did it. Right where his heart was. It didn't go through that far yet, she knew it wouldn't, but he was open up. He writhed.

"I can fix you with nanos when you're done," said Elijah. "Maybe I can even ressurect Mike, after I fix his memores."

"James brainwashed me..." said Mike, almost whispered. Only Ashley could hear him. "Becaue he was brainwashed himself first...I found nanos coming out his ears."

"Nanos?" asked Ashley. "You mean..."

"It was Elijah," said Mike. "He's behind it all. FUCK YOU SLUT, DIE." And he sprung to his feet.

Ashley thrust her blade forward.

She stopped with the blade an inch from his heart. Could it be true? Could it be Elijah? Or was Mike just saying whatever hurtful thing he could now, with his mind infected? She had never known Elijah to harm a fly. It had been him who had put the team together originally, to do good, to make the world a better place. Even though James was her brother she would sooner believe he was capable for such evil than Elijaha. And they were in Scotland and James had made serveral unexplained trips there recently...that could not be a coincidence. He could have been setting up those bots which had attacked and triggered Mike. James made more sense than Elijah, given eerything she knew.

And yet...Elijah had been acting strange since the whole thing had started. And something about the way Mike had been speaking...it didn't sound like he had been lying or influenced. It had sounded like the real Mike.

"Did you do it?" she heard Elijah ask, as he walked down the hill. "I'm sorry, Ash, I'm so so sorry. He was the best of us all. But compromised, he was just too dangerous to live. Please, Ash, come to me and I'll insert you with nanos. They will heal you." She looked into Mike's eyes. She knew that look. But then his look became black. Whatever was influencing him took over. She pulled the blade out...then back-flipped right over Elijah as he came up behind her. She held the blade at Elijah's throat.

"Ash, no, what are you doing?" asked Elijah.

"KILL YOU, WHORE, SLUT, FORNICATOR..." said Mike.

"Try it and I'll slit Elijah's stinking throat," she said. Mike looked like he was about to step forward, but he stopped himself and looked confused.

"This is madness!" said Elijah. "He'll kill us both!"

"I don't think so," said Ashley. "I don't think he'll act at all while your life is threatened. He hasn't tried to hurt you yet."

"Because he saw you as a threat!"

"So why isn't he attacking now? Why would me threatening you stop him?"

"I...I don't know. Mind games!"

"His mind's fried, Elijah. He's not playing any games. You are."

"Ashley, please, you know me, I could never do this to Mike, to you, to James..."

"DON'T SAY HIS NAME."

"Mike, if you can hear me in there, Ahsley's gone nuts!" said Elijah, pleading to Mike now. "I think SHE'S the one behind it, that SHE killed James and your wife! I bet Rachel agrees..."

"Rachel's dead, how could she agree?" asked Ashley. Elijah didn't answer.

"He's right," said the vision of Rachel only Mike could see. "Bitch killed me and spat on my body."

"I think your nanos are making Mike see Rachel," said Ashley. "I think you also programmed them with the instruction that Mike could not harm you, or take any action that would."

"Ashley, I'm not some super villian!" said Elijah. "You know me!"

"Do I?" she asked. Then Elijah started to laugh...to cackle. She had never heard such a sound come from him before. She's heard him laugh, he used to love to laugh, but this...this was a perversio of a laugh. Sick, twisted...evil.

"Okay, okay," he said. "I confess. I did it. I did it all. He can't hurt me, and you won't kill me in cold blood, so I can...AAH, STOP." She was pressing the blade into his throat. Mike took a step forward and she pressed it harder.

"WHY?" she asked.

"Because it felt soooooo good," said Elijah. Then fifteen flying killer bots appeared in the sky over the hill.

"I still have you," said Ashley, trying to make sense of all this in her head. "They won't kill me while I'm using you."

"My dear, I never intended for you to die," said Elijah. "Not you."

"Mike could have killed me...you just sent him after me! Of course you wanted me to die," she said, watching as the killer bots circled around Mike, whose firsts were clench as tightly as he could manage in his current weakened condition.

"I knew you could best Mike in combat," Elijah. "Okay, if you didn't...it would habe been regretful. You're not essentialy, Ash, of course you're not. You never have been, not on any of our missions. But I wanted you working for me."

"Never," she said.

"Well not NOW, obviously! I was hoping I could keep up the charade, pin the whole thing on James - that's why we're in Scotland by the way, as part of the deception - and use your anger at, well, the world to eventually turn you as I had been turned. Or I could just send you on missions telling you they were for good when really they were for evil. That would have been a hoot, that's what that would have been! I would have injected you with nanos for insurance, of course. That's only reasonable."

"Why would you want me alive and working for you and not Mike? You already have him under your control, he's the most powerful man on the planet."

"Pff, doesn't look like it now! He got his ass kicked by a girl. That's why. He's unstable. It's always been there, under the surface. His great physical strength...do you really think it didn't affect his mind as well? He's going nuts, I just brought it forward. That's probably why you were so attracted to him, the danger and all that. The nanons would never completely work on him. For example, I tried to weaken him so you could easily defeat him...but look at him, still alive despite it. I bet he even figured out that I'm the villian, didn't he? Despite me seemingly having complete power over him, his mind was just too erractic..."

"Or his will too strong!"

"Call it what you want. He would have been no good to me. I wouldn't have had him completely as I planned to have you. If he had been able to fight his way out of my control, well, he could have killed me easily. No, Mike must die. He's too dangerous to live. That part was true."

"They can't kill him, even if he's only at 10% fifteen killer bots are nothing." They still hadn't moved in for the attack, and Mike was looking impatient, but he wouldn't make the first move either.

"Killer bots programmed by me, which know his every weakness, which will fire killer rays specifically designed for his body chemistry...oh, he'll die alright."

"I won't let that happen," she said, as the bots seemed to be getting into formation now.

"You'll have to let me go then," Elijah giggled. Then the bots attacked, all fifteen of them at once. Mike moved faster than Ashley thought would be possible. He jumped into the sky and came down with one under his feet, crushing it, grabbing another on the way down smashing it into the hard ground. He avoided one ray blast, but another from another bot hit him in the back...and Mike fell to his knees.

"Why did you kill James?" Ashley asked, knowing it would be the last question she'd get out.

"Again, he was too dangerous to my plans. He already suspected, he'd been making trips to Scotland to investigate the bots that had been sighted here...my bots, which I was testing. That's it, really. I used him to mind wipe Mike so that if Mike ever did remember what would happen he would automatically suspect James of being responsible. That's about it. Was nothing personal."

"Neither's this," said Ashley and she slit Elijah's throat then jumped into combat just as five killer bots were about to fire on Mike at close range, taking them out with precise slashes of her remaining blade.

Elijah lay on the cold ground dying.

i had to read it all again with a scottish accent in my head. ashley and james were scottish, is mike? elijah? i'm imagining elijah as a hip london rastaman, but i don't know. i need the accents to be right.

I actually imagined the main story taking place in the USA, though I don't even know where at all. Ashley and James' parents were from Scotland and they might have lived there when they were young. Don't know! Mike has the exact same accent as YOU.

Mike managed to stand. He felt nothing but confusion. The battle had made things simpler. Even when he'd been seconds away from death it had been simpler, so refreshingly simple. He'd almost wanted it to happen, wanted the killer bots to fire on him, so that finally he could have release. Now? He saw Ashley fighting for her life against eight or nine killer bots and he wanted to help. At the same time, in the same mind, there was part of him that wanted to kill Ashley. He could hear Rachel's voice telling him to do it, and part of him believed utterly that she was still alive, that he had to do it, that he had to snap Ashley's neck. Yet another part was telling him that she was just an illusion created by the nanos or James' mind control or something. He wanted to rip his own head off.

Then he looked at Elijah, bleeding out of his slit throat. He knew, part of him knew that is, that Elijah was behind all this. That he had arranged for Mike to kill James. That he was responsible. But then there was a command over-riding all that, a command to help and protect Elijah at all costs. He staggered towars him. Mike's chest was open, he had just remembered that, and the blood on his hands looked like something that should concern him. But he had to help Elijah - THE MURDERING BASTARD - had to help Elijah - HE DESERVES TO DIE, HELP ASHLEY - had to help...

He span round, grabbed a killer bot form behind and pull its head off. He kicked another one into the sky then punched it off into the distance on the way down.

"Hi," he said to Ashley, as they began to fight the remaining bots back to back.

"Hi," she said. Even with Mike as hurt as he was and Ashley injured from the gruelling fight and exhausted after the revealations from Elijah...there was no way they were going to die here at the hands of some killer bots. They fought on. The bots themselves almost seemed able to sense that this was a losing battle. One turned to fly away but Mike jumped into the air and pulled it back down to destroy it. At last, the fight was over. Both turn their attention to Elijah.

He was sitting up, touching his neck. It was amost completely healed.

"Nanos," he said. "Kill her, Mike," he added, casually.

YES, FUCKING KILLER HER, KILL HER TO FUCKING DEATH, said Rachel.

"No," Mike forced out. "No."

"Oh," said Elijah. "Well, damn. But she won't kill me. She slit my throat, yes, but she could have cut deeper, she could have cut my head clean off with her blades. She knew the nanos would heal me, but it would take some time. Clever."

"I thought you might bleed to death before they did," said Ashley. "Either way the only reason I didn't kill you is that I still want answers."

"What's to explain? I've studied them for years, the agents. The shadowy organisations. The Network, I started to call it. I hated them, I really did. I was just like both of you. I genuinely wanted to make the world a better place. That's why I put the team together. But...over the years, and it DID take years...I just...look, they're so powerful. The Network are everywhere. It's unbelievable. I tried to calculate how to bring them down with the team but...you know how it is with me. The numbers, they were so huge. It consumed me. Trying to coming up with a way to bring them all down...but there's so many of them. Everywhere! They influence every aspect of our society, our lives...they rule us. It's so much bigger than I ever told you. I'm shaking with awe just thinking about it. I cracked, okay? I came to the conclusion that there was no way to bring them down, none."

"If you can't beat them, join them," said Ashley, grimly.

"That's a little glib," said Elijah. "But yes, join them, but not just to be one of them, oh no. To be the most powerful of them all. The only way to possibly bring them down...no, there's no way to do that. But to influence them, to bend them to my will...that might have been possible. But it required me doing evil things. Terrible things. I did them, I thought for the greater good, I had to get inside...but once you've done the things I have you can't un do them. You can't forget them. I thought about them all the time...I LIKED THEM, HAHAHAHA!" He had cracked up again. Mike grabbed him.

"Killing me, killing James, I can understand, but why Rachel? What threat was she?"

"Who said I killed Rachel?" said Elijah, smiling. "She's alive and well and living at the bottom of the ocean."

i can haz bump?

I don't really know who to explain that last line to be hones.

Secret underwater hatch?

We're through the looking glass.
