Ack! Need help....

Okay...found the Software install disk, though it's 10.3.4. I forgot they installed 10.4 in the shop. Which means some of my upgrades that depend on 10.4 (like my widgets) won't work till I upgrade again.

One step at a time. Keep your fingers crossed. For me and for Clay... ;)

Crap!

I forgot that I already had a DVD in there, and I can't eject! AAAARGH!!!!

It's the Star Trek:The Motion Picture DE. I swear it's some kind of retribution by proxy. A years old dormant virus that was implanted in the DVD when it was given to me...so this could happen. How deliciously ironic would that be? ;)

How do I eject a DVD when I can't even get into the system?! The F12 key does not work...

Aha!

To eject a CD when you can't get to your desktop is pretty simple. Restart the machine and hold down the mouse button until the disk ejects.

Now that I know all of these crazy tricks they all seem like old hat, but I'm sure I would never have thought to hold down the mouse button like that on my own. In other words, don't feel bad. Everybody needs some research.

THANK YOU! I've done that, and the machine is currently doing an Archive Install.

Keep yer fingers crossed...

Ishcabittle....my new Mac God... :D

ISHKABITTLE! YOU DID IT!

I'm in, though it got a little hairy with the password issue. But I'm back in business!

And I swear to God, the first file that popped up were my Clay videos. It brought tears to my eyes.

Three cheeers for Ishkabittle!

Hip Hip Hooray!

Hip Hip Hooray!

Hip Hip Hooray! :bigass:

On the one hand, I'm super excited that I helped you out and got your Mac running again.

On the other, I'm a little unsettled that Clay was first to appear. Is he stalking you, or are you stalking him?

In either case, yay! You did it! Now go masturbate to some Clay! Or sing along, hell, I don't know with you kids now a days...

Hmmm...it seems I now have a folder named "Damaged Files", made last night. Could that have been the problem? Some files were corrupted? And do I trash the file?

Clay was open when the system crashed, so it popped back up when we fixed it. Yay!

Now my job is to get my 'puter back to where it was before all of this mess. How do I go about doing that?

Educate me, Ishy! :D

Well, you should wait a little while to delete the "Previous System Folder" folder, as there may be some extensions or additions you may need to retrieve from your old Library.

If you open an application (a 3rd party app) and it doens't start, we'll know enough to get it's preference file from the old Library.

Just tool around your system and make sure that it's stable before you do anything. We should check back next week or so... or like Friday or something.

Yeah, we should definitely check out Friday.

UPDATE: Sorry, a day late...

Everything is working fine, except Safari just will not open for me. I'm currently using Internet Explorer (ugh). I'm still, also, currently on OS 3.9 because my friend hasn't given me the 10.4 disc yet, so my widgets and such are in a state of limbo.

But I do have acess to ALL my files, and nothing was lost.

Thanks again, Ishy. My friend/techie finally called back....after everything was sorted out. I told him I have it under control, and that I did an Archive Install. His incredulous response was, "Where did you learn to do an Archive Install?"

Heh... ;)

hehehe.... that'll teach him to be a day late and a dollar short.

If I recall, there's a downloadable version of Safari on the Apple site specifically for the 10.2.8 users that are still out there... you could look there for a new vesion.

And there's always Firefox, which will import your Safari bookmarks and everything.

;);)

Friday said:
But my Clay Videos....

Well...right there's your problem.

Just take it as a sign from God that He/She/It is displeased with your choice of music, and pop in some Pink Floyd, Grieg or Sinatra, and the Almighty will restore functionality to your warez, and forgive your Aiken transgression.

:bigass:

LOL

Clay has the voice of a god, so how could that have been the problem? :bigass:

Of course, someone has been trying to get me to listen to some Paul Weller and The Jam. I'm beginning to think it's the start of an insidious deprogramming plot.

You'll never get me to denounce Clay. Never I say! ;) :D
