Our current system is archaic, unbalanced, inefficient and misaligned with the supposedly lofty notions the country was founded on.

Abandoning it for an even more archaic system - one our forefather fought a war to rid themselves of - is hardly the answer either.

As Winston said, democracy is the best we've got. It's awful, but there's no better alternative.

I think the internet and technological leaps this century will reveal that alternative.

My guess is that they're idealists who were probably raised on one too many Disney princess movies growing up. Or they want a "return to tradition".
