An Austrian guy I knew hanged himself the other day

Just got the news. I didn't know him super well but I've had a few drinks with him in the past and been to a few parties that he has been at. He was always such a good natured and happy guy. Seems really weird.

A lot of us who are foreigners here know each other and spend time together at bars or restaurants and what not.

Everyone is gutted.

It does suck. It's weird when people you wouldn't expect to kill themself do it, but from their point of view it must make "sense".

I sometimes wonder if anyone beyond my parents and best friends would shed a tear.

I can't really make sense of it right now. I was looking through my phone as I often do and stumbled across his mobile number. I guess I have to delete it though I didn't have the heart to do it tonight.

Those are the moments about loss that take most people by surprise: the new reaction to everyday reminders of the person.

I remember us not wanting to erase my dad's voice from the phone machine while we were closing the house after he passed. Just strange.
