I think I might be more excited for this than season 1.
I know a lot of people loved S1, but it was such a slow burn in a bad way. I guess it made sense for newer viewers, but if you were a Rebels viewer it felt like a different perspective on the same story, how the Empire slowly corrupted the Republic and how the Bureaucracy disconnected the Imperials from the normal citizens they were supposedly "protecting" all by design.

The TIE fighter theft cold open was a strong start. It's funny though that after that Cassian was stuck in probably the weakest part of the 3 episdoes with the squabbling rebels. I did like the pay-off where they played rock/paper/scissors for leadership. I think we'll see some of them in the Rebel Alliance in a future arc and they'll see Cassian and be like "hey, it's that guy!"
Loved the Ministry of Enlightenment guys at the genocide meeting. Good to see Krennic again!
Syril and Dedra's dinnner with his mother was amazing.
First time "rape" has been said in Star Wars for sure. Poor Brasso. He didn't even get to hit anyone with a brick before he died. Bee got left behind on the farm like how sick old dogs get sent off to live on farms.
Yay, Cinta was in it! She kills people!
Mon getting space drunk and dancing to the space dubstep was great. I like that they showed Perrin (her husband) looking a bit concerned, and that he made a nice speech at the wedding. I like it when they show different sides to characters (he's just been a shiftless gambler until now.)
It's the attention to detail and the quality of the dialogue and world-building that really set Andor apart.

The wedding dance reminded me of Buck Rogers, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if the choreography was the same.
Poor brasso, now how will they polish their old kettles?
First use of rape in live action, they had it in the books, I think it happened to Boba Fetts sister, who wasn't Omega, it didn't end well for the guy, that was Yuzzan Vong era, no longer canon.
The rapist reminded me of Austin Powers for some reason.

I just finished ep 1.
Stealing the TIE fighter was fun. Part of the rebels fighting was fun, then it went on the whole episode. The rest of the politics stuff is a bit blah, but I know they're setting it up for what happens next.

First half of the first episode was pretty good, but then got bogged down with the space hippy rebels. Then the second episode was just Andor figuring out how to get out of the situation. Then the third episode had all of my favorite things about Star Wars, family drama, girl bosses, modern day politics, EDM and of course a rape scene.What a huge mixed bag. I do wonder if they built a full size model of the TIE fighter because it looks really good. Hopefully the next episode we can really get into the rebellion. Mon Mothma dancing joyless at her daughter's wedding does say a lot about what she's sacrificing for the rebel alliance which is the main theme of the show. What's the other red head chick all pissed about?

Definitely. I like how Cassian is all like I don't know how to fly this tie fighter, I've been upside down for two days and the next minute he's flying it like an experienced tie fighter pilot.
Watched the first two episodes. I'll watch the third in the morning.
Carjacking the TIE fighter was a great cold open, and watching it on my brand-new TV setup, this is definitely a good show to christen my new entertainment corner. It is gorgeous to look at, no question.
I have very mixed feelings about the way shows are made these days: fewer episodes, bigger budgets, more cinematic style. But Andor is a good example of how that approach can actually benefit a more self-contained story. Never going to stop moaning about the literal years between seasons, though.
I thought the rebels who capture Cassian were pretty so-so. I did not care much about all their bickering, I just wanted Cassian to get out of there and move on. What I really loved was the political intrigue with the Empire: seeing the nuts and bolts of how the administration actually works, from cubicle drones to smug middle managers to directors like Krennic (Mendelsohn is a delight again). It was good in Rogue One, it was good in Andor season 1, and it is unsurprisingly good again here.
I still get that slight uncanny feeling that Andor is wearing its Star Wars skin a bit snugly. But really, it is telling a story that could work outside Star Wars with just a few tweaks. A show like The Mandalorian leans way harder into the Jedi, Mandalorians, and the whole Star Wars mythology. You could not pull that story out and drop it somewhere else without it falling to bits. Given that Tony Gilroy cut his teeth on spy thrillers, this makes a lot of sense.
Andor, on the other hand, is definitely telling a compelling story about the Empire, the Rebels, and the tense dynamic between them. However, it does sometimes feel like it could be told without the Star Wars setting, with minimal changes to the actual story. Is that a bad thing? I don't think so. It is worth mentioning, though. I feel like I said this during season 1. I can't remember.
The pace (I am apparently incapable of talking about any show without bringing this up) is glacial. I get it, the cinematography is very deliberate, it likes to linger, but I do think it could have used a bit more pep in its step. All those serious glares and meaningful looks add up after a while.
Um, yeah, it is good so far. Enjoying it. Glad to see Cassian rocketing out of the stranded rebels storyline at the end of episode 2 though.

As ever it's the third episode that makes it, but everything that happens in the first two is completely necessary to get to this point (and very entertaining in their own right.)
It was almost cruel how for the first part of the first episode you think maybe Syril is being sincere. Maybe his sense of decency has won out, he's seen through the Imperial propaganda. But of course he's a double agent! Of course it's the happiest day of his life when he gets praised by the head ISB guy (great actor by the way.) Fucking Syril!
"The mother is terrifying!" lol.
I liked how the Ghorman rebels are all hot young people to contrast with Saw's rebels being all grimy aliens. Poor Wilmone isn't getting out of this alive, is he. We have to take a moment to appreciate that this Star Wars show has Forest Whitaker deliver an impassioned speech about huffing fumes. No other show would be so bold. The mention of his sister was a good deepcut for nerds too.
Tarkin landed his spaceship on people who wouldn't get out the way of course he did.

Cinta dying right after her and Vel get back together and we finally get onscreen lesbianism did feel a bit cliched, but I assume Varada Sethu was limited because of Doctor Who and they did what they could. Vel telling off the bumbling guy afterwards was good.
Loved that we got Mon and Krennic in a scene together out of nowhere! All while Kleya continues to prove her badass credentials.
I hope Bix is feeling better now that she's got to blow up her torturer!
#NotMyBail. It fucking sucks that the great Jimmy Smits wasn't able to return because of a fucking DEXTER REBOOT of all things. But I'll tolerate it, I suppose!

They're speaking an invented language which is based on French.
It's a mark of a great show that a day later I can't stop thinking about it and the complexities of the plot. My post above feels highly inadequate to express how much I appreciate this show. The way Kyle Stoller plays the scenes with the Ghorman rebels you think that maybe, just maybe some of it is sinking in. He's such a fascinating character because you (well, me anyway) do kind of want him to have that moment of realisation because there is something likable about the weirdo. I do think when he does find out what the Empire is really up to his faith in law and order will be shattered and maybe Dedra will have to kill him to stop the plan being comprimised.
It's funny that I remember I didn't like Forest Whitaker's performance in Rogue One but he was great here, so believable as a mad man who knows he's mad and uses his madness to seduce young Wil to his cause, while still being well and truly mad.
Then there's the fact that Luthen and the ISB are both doing the same thing on Ghorman! Both want to get the rebels going for their own purposes. Cassian correctly deduces that the Empire is setting the rebels up and they'll probably all die, Luthen has no doubt figured this out too and doesn't care because he just sees the big picture. And the show doesn't point to either Cassian or Luthen being right or wrong, they're just two different but valid points of view.
It's a great show is what I'm saying, we should appreciate it whle we have it (6 more episdoes!) because in a couple of years we'll be saying "why don't we have a show like Andor anymore?"
