See, that's the thing--and it amazes me that Storm apparently didn't see it. Shit, if anyone is playing this game for the win, it's Gul. [I'll omit the play-by-play and just hit the high points]:
The Goldeneye opening: Preemptively ban someone on the excuse that they might reveal personal information.
This caused a nice little shitstorm that went on for what, 2-3 weeks? More? And was finally starting to die down. Elwood just about had everyone (mostly) placated.
So Gul leave himself with the fig-leaf of "Well, I don't agree with the decision, but respect that it is your perogative. Still I think it sets a dangerous precedent..." [paraphrased]
That would've been it, right there. Really, the only way to stoke that fire would be if someone threatened to reveal personal information on another Wordforger.
Cue Storm. :bang: The boy takes a situation that would've rested uneasily until it eventually came up and made it come up while the matter was fresh in everyone's mind.
Yes, he was very clever. He didn't come right out and directly threaten anyone, but fuck, Goldeneye didn't even post anything and he was banned. It's pretty clear that Storm is implying that he's going to use someone's personal information against them.
So that puts Elwood in a position where he has three options (as I see it):
1) He admits that he banned Goldeneye because he doesn't like him,
2) He bans Storm because it seems likely that he will reveal personal information or
3) He comes up with some bullshit excuse for how Goldeneye not actually doing anything is more threatening than Storm spending about three days laying not-so-subtle hints that he is up to something dirty.
I don't see any other way out of the corner Storm has so cleverly painted him into to "help" him. Personally, I think the best option is Option 1. I mean it pretty much makes Tamar and all the other staff look like tools for perpetrating a hoax for however many weeks. And it make Elwood look petty and small.
Hell, maybe permabanning Storm would be the best solution. After all, he was behind the troll that started the whole mess in the first place. But I don't think that'll happen. And I'd rather it didn't. The place is boring as shit without him. (Although toward the end of his last self-imposed hiatus Liet had almost calmed down enough that you could have a rational discussion with him. Almost.)
The worst possible solution to this mess (and incidentally the one that I'll be we see) is that The Powers That Be will run some variation of "There's Nothing to See Here" or "This is Different Because We Say So" that'll only make matters worse. :cylon:
