Ant-Man

I saw it today (in 2D.) I liked it. I was a bit worried at first as it didn't get off to the best start. There was a lot of exposition in the first 30 minutes (the villain just basically explains everything he's going to do in one long scene) and Scott Lang's character took a while to become interesting. BUT once they actually got to the shrinking stuff it got good. The macro photogrpahy looked great. Much better than Honey I Shrunk The Kids! And the ants. The ants were cool. Michael Douglas was really good as Hank Pym and not a "phoning it in for the money" performance like Anthony Hopkins. Evangeline Lilly was actually very good too (FUCK TAURIEL) and really their father daughter relationship made Scott feel surplus at times. But I think Scott got better by the end and his scenes with his daughter were well done (oh I just realised it was a movie about father-daughter relationships.) The little girl actress was good in a part that could have been too sickly sweet. The villain was fine? Like he was too close to the evil businessmen villains of the Iron Man movies, but the actor was good and did the crazy stuff well and his suit was cool. Having the final battle be in a little girl's bedroom rather than a huge explosion fest was nice too. Falcon's appearance was fun. SO YEAH despite a slow start I enjoy the movie and it was another fine entry to the MCU, though not on the level of Guardians (but most things aren't.)

So when Edgar Wright left this movie I thought "WELL I DON'T REALLY CARE ABOUT ANT-MAN ANYMORE" but then it turned out the movie was really good and maybe (probably) it would have been even better with Edgar Wright but we'll never know and ANYWAY the point I'm trying to make in this long rambling sentence is that I wanted a sequel and we're getting one!

“Ant-Man,” Scott Lang will return alongside Hope Van Dyne on July 6, 2018 with Marvel’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp.” The sequel will mark the first Marvel Studios film named after its heroine.

This is good because I thought it would be like 2020 by the earliest BUT EVEN BETTER that it's Ant-Man AND THE WASP as Evangeline Lilly was really good as Hope.

Of course this means some other movies move release dates and Black Panther will now come a bit earlier (though it was already moved back for Spider-Man) which is good but...

Marvel’s “Captain Marvel” landing on March 8, 2019

This is not good as it was already moved back for Spider-Man as well. Fuck Spider-Man.

Sooner or later they are going to have to admit they have no idea how to do Captain Marvel.
