ARSENAL1/EVERTON1

hmmmm speaking of food references in the lingo....we have "peachy" if things are not going well...it's used like this:
As you hit your thumb with the hammer for the third time and a minion asks if everything's ok, you grit your teeth and snarl "just peachy!"

We say "piece of cake" if something is easy: How was the test? "Piece of cake".

If you are working out and you hate cardio but you love weights, you'll be "saving the weight-training for dessert".

The problem with most American & Canadian references, is that we will have seen and logged them in movies & TV shows. We use Peachy as well, though not that often in my experience. Piece of Cake is in very common use here.

Just admit it. We have our own language that will forever serve as a curio for your mob over there :D

and I wouldn't have it any other way. :D

not even with hash browns and beans?

Meanwhile, there's an interesting article involving the folly of Man Utd's financial setup over at the Beeb.

The game is rapidly becoming unsustainable. Without this sort of financial trickery, or a serious money man willing to plough vast reserves into a club, they will not make enough money to outlay the cost of running it. Players are now paid far too much for the system to work. I really can't wait for the bubble to burst.

A lot of clubs are going to suffer, and have already suffered, but it probably needs it before the big teams realise that the their ways are going to cost everyone.

IIRC, the NHL clubs had to finally do the same thing. They shut down the whole League for a year...and surprise, surprise, the pro hockey players decided they could do very well indeed with salary caps after a year of NO income at all....

I don't fully understand all the rules of NHL, but I know if it was something that I had access to on a regular basis, I would very easily get into it. I first watched it as a kid during the Winter Olympics at Calgary in 88, where Russia won it. Ever since then, whenever it's on TV, I've watched and loved it, although the terminology washes over my head.

of course every child in Québec is weaned on it so I still retain a soft spot for the Habs
(Canadiens) and will always tune in to watch the Internationals just because Sweden, Russia, Norway etc are so lovely to watch. Alas, USA (AND Canada!) play a much more smash-em-in-the-boards game than one of actual finesse so I am less amused when they do that, especially since I know those same guys are quite capable of playing clean games of astounding skill.
My father and I have had this discussion ad nauseum as he is of the school that believes a "physical game" as they call it, is part of hockey.
I remain unconvinced.
