Augustus Gloop, Augustus Gloop!

Helps to be a little wasted when you watch "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". Depp was far less creepy that Gene Wilder in the original.
 
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory doesn't hold a candle to Gene Wilder's original. A good effort, though, and is probably appropriate for today's 1-second attention span HFCS-powered ritalin junkie kids.

It's a trippy movie. Well made and well acted. But if you don't like the style then you just won't like it. I thought it kicked ass. I probably do still prefer the original Gene Wilder effort but I enjoyed Depp as Willy Wonka, he played him well.
 
With the exception of Batman & Batman Returns, I'm not keen on Tim Burton's movies, and I felt there was no need to remake the orginal, which was so well done, and still looks good today. As a result, I will not be purchasing that particular movie on DVD.

It's worthit just to see Depp's take on the role. The movie is just out there and the oompa loompas are just an inspiration. (I am not a Burton fan either, though I don't mind him)
 
From the clips I've seen, Depp is putting in the kind of performance I don't like seeing him do - the Edward Scissorhands / Gilbert Grape 'quirky' style. If somebody gets a copy, I'll watch it, but I won't be purchasing it.

I have a feeling that if I do watch it, I would have been wishing for the same effects, but I'm willing to give most movies a chance.

With the team of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp.... I think it falls short of what it should be. The previews are horrible.
 
It kicks ass. DEPP IS FANTABULOUS!

Chewing gum is really gross, chewing gum I hate the most.

Oh, and Gagh. Christopher Lee plays Depps/Wonkas father in it.
 
The movie gets a solid B.

The chick rates a 6. She'd be a 7 if she fixed that gummy-ass smile.

Kristen Bell has a gummy smile, but she's still a 9.5 because, well, SHE'S VERONICA MARS.

I remember when the short teaser trailer came out. The opinions of it were cut right down the middle on TBBS. Half loathed it and half loved it. I loved the teaser back then and in turn was not dissapointed with the movie. I may have to go watch the Augustus Gloop song now, it's hilarious. And all of Depp's whimsical double takes and expressions when everyone is looking at him like he's a raving loon are just movie magic. Not a movie for everyone, agreed though.
